Requisite "New Player" Post

Post by Crossfire »

Hi all!

This is the requisite "I'm new" post, where I tell you a little about myself and a little about how I feel about the game, and ask a question or two. So, first things first.

My name is Rob, but I usually go by "Crossfire" on the innertubes. I'm a dad, podcaster, game player and Canadian (not necessarily in that order). Last week I was going through some archived blog posts on my blog (gamedad.wordpress.com) and I noticed a post where I briefly mentioned Evochron Legends, and how I was enjoying it. I had completely forgotten about it, so I checked it out again and found Evochron Mercenary, which I immediately downloaded, played 1/2 the demo, and then purchased.

I'm a Freelancer fan from way back, and EM scratches an itch I've been trying to take care of since I couldn't play Freelancer any longer (moving off of Windows XP ixnayed it for me).

I've been playing a bit of the SP game, and yesterday jumped into a MP game, met a couple of forum regulars (SeeJay and some others). I've convinced a couple of friends to get into the game as well - the more, the merrier!

I do have a question, however. I've been having difficulty with "search" contracts, heading out to a waypoint to look for a lost "something" for the local navy. I head out to the assigned waypoint, home in on the area marked off in my nav menu (shows as a small blue box), but I have yet to been able to find any lost objects. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need extra equipment to find these things?

Anyhow - I look forward to many hours wasted with this game.

Cheers,
Crossfire.

Welcome Crossfire. To hopefully answer your question, first you need to ensure you have a cargo scanner in your equipment list. Then look for the little purple dot on your 3D radar display. Fly toward the purple dot and tada, contract complete. I hope to see you and your friends out there.

Welcome Crossfire! MikeUk is correct. Watch your center radar nav screen for the red/purple/pink/salmon colored spot. Home in on that, as it's the target you need to complete those search missions for the Navy.
Some of my newer, if not better, friends here are Canadian. Maybe sharing a continent has something to do with it. :) What with pilots from the US, all of the UK, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Russia, and who knows where else; we're truely a global community here. Possessing a working knowledge of the English language is helpful, but not an absolute requirement due to the availability of translational software. Vice has also posted French and German language packs for the game/sim.

Again, welcome back to the game, the forum, and the Evo-Verse. Hope to see yaz out dere! ;):cool:

Hey all - thanks for the warm welcome. I did *not* have a cargo scanner, which was causing my problem. I'll rectify that first chance I get.

FYI - I'm going to look over the clans and look at joining one of them if I can. Currently I'm mainly interested in adventure, trading and completing contracts, and not so much interesting in hardcore combat.

Cheers

Hello Crossfire, to find the item you can just jump from any heading from the station and coast with your IDS off until you see a blip show on your radar screen (unless it is there already when you come out of your jump). Jump onto Multi-player and we can help you if you ask and want help. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in Multi-Player sometime.:)

Hi crossfire and welcome.

Was nice meeting you online.

You don't need a cargo scanner to find the contract goals. I have never used it and have no problems.
Just look for the pink blob on your 3D radar.

If you use a crew it might increase your scanners range!;)

Hi Crossfire, welcome to Evochron!

Looking for adventure but not hardcore combat? Your callsign is very appropriate then lol! I myself have often been caught in crossfire in the persuit of adventure! You may be interested in our clan Universe Explorers... we are essentially, well, explorers. For the more dangerous expeditions we also have an escort wing for the more trigger-happy inclined members of the clan. I would however recommend joining a clan that you see regularly online... there are some excellent ones out there and most of them have a taste for adventure and trading.

Thanks, MCCON - I jumped into multiplayer and SeeJay was very kind in helping me out with a few things I was having issue with. I've since played some more single player and have completed several contracts (still following the string of contracts from the beginning of the game, plus a few extra I've taken just for kicks).

[UE] definitely sounds like my kind of clan - what's more, I was personally involved in urban exploration for many years, back in my youth. The short form we used for that was also UE, so maybe it's kismet. the first part of my main email address is also (wait for it) crossfire.ue@... It sounds like destiny.

I'll check the clan board for a UE thread, and post there about my interest.

Thanks!

Welcome to the game and forum, Crossfire if I not already have done so! Internet had been down for 6 days in my area due to a snow storm! For the search missiohns you do not need a cargo scanner or crew to find the lost containers. You just jump to the Nav coordinates and keep cruising through and past the Nav point till a purple/pink tadpole shows up on your radar and then fly towards the tadpole. Cargo scanner and/or crew will increase your scanning range and decrease your finding time but are not neccesary!....;)

Geez, Maarschalk - snow storm? Where in the US are you? It's been sunny and 65 degrees here in south-western Ontario!

I'm hoping to have the time to jump into some multiplayer action tonight. As I have joined the Universe Explorers, I'm assuming my tag should appear as [UE]Crossfire?

LOL...I'm in Massachusetts, about 50 miles NNW of Boston.
6 days ago we got 10" of wet heavy snow that damaged a lot of trees and power lines....yes, it snowed in OCTOBER! some blame it on global warming and others on the shifting of the poles and some on the fact that we are getting relatively closer to the center of our galaxy, but I blame it on relativity!.....;):P:P:P:P:P

Here in eastern MA we just got a light enough dusting to annoy the Halloween tourists.

61 degrees? 65 degrees? What's that in metric!? Here in Madrid when gets to 42 degrees in summer you can't even go out cos of the heat! To me 65 degrees sounds like the sort of temperature at which bacteria start dying in UHT milk!! (which is the only type of milk you can find in Spain anyway) :o

LOL Crossfire... that is funny about your "destiny" to be in UE! Welcome to the clan! Just to make that official you need to confirm it with the clan leader (Tbird) on the clan thread... but I know he'll approve it.

(EDIT) OK I just saw the clan thread. Congrats [UE]Crossfire! ;)

That 65 degrees was in (F) -- 65 degrees (C) and we'd nearly be dead! I think yesterday we hit a daytime high of 18 degrees (C).
