The Mystery of the invisible asteroid!

Post by DaveK »

I've been having some very weird experiences whilst mapping the Sapphire asteroid cave!

If I left click on the steroid in the nav map and jump directly in there is no problem, but if I jump to chamber coordinates inside the cave, part or all of the walls disappear! However, the inside walls are still there because I'm trapped in there - the outside walls are different I can fly out through them, but then they "close" behind me and I can't fly back in

I've taken lots of screenshots (too many to post) - a selection are available here

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dr.kent/

I tried again after a reboot of my PC - no change

I thought that it must be my PC so I asked Viper to help investigate. He had no problems jumping to the wreck chamber normally but . . .
  • I could see, target his ship with missiles and hit his ship with missiles
  • He could only see me as a target circle on his screen, but could hit me with missiles
Viper went outside to next to where I was floating inside - I could see him, he could only see the wall and me in his targetting circle - I could shoot him with missiles and cannon - he could do the same to me - shooting through the walls!

When I fly out through the walls they appear as "sheets" cutting through my cockpit - I also appear, flying through the walls to Viper! Once I'm outside looking in I can see the asteroid - if I haven't fully left it I can fly back in - If I leave than the walls solidify!

Viper has taken a number of videos which he will post soon. I'll leave it to him to tell his side of the story!!

Although not keep it to yourself and trying to use it to your advantage in LMS shows a regrettable surplus of nobility!

Yup there is a spot on the asteroid's hitbox where you can fly through from the outside in. Once there, it appears as though you're in open space since you can't see any of the inside walls or corridors of the asteroid itself, but you're definitely inside since you can see the backside of the entrance and the separate model parts of the wreckage inside the asteroid.

I hope the video shows where exactly the spot on the asteroid is clearly enough, so Vice may fix it. If not then it won't be a biggy to go back out there and log the exact coordinates.

Here's the video. It's marked private and not tagged or titled with anything Evochron, please don't share it unnecessarily. No need to publish game bugs. ;)

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C7PUoja5zz0?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C7PUoja5zz0?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

~ Viper.

P.S.: Apologies for the poor quality. My graphics card was strained to close its max capacity at the time of shooting the video. If need be I'd be happy to shoot another one in better quality.

Maybe you are just Superman and can simply see through walls:cool:

Maybe you have a gift?;) Maybe on the next version, Vice can line the walls with lead to help stamp out your new found super-ability:P:P:P

all round good guys that's [HB] - coupled with the fact that the walls are still there in terms of not being able to fly through them inside the cave.

The bad guys just have to come and get you!! :)

I too suffer from Xray vision, but since the force is with me I can turn it off. This allows me to enjoy the beautiful stars and planets that this game was designed with. You might be part JEDI like me.

 I already knew you could jump inside the cave ... but this is the first time I've seen how you could actually fly right through a wall at normal speed.

******************SPOILER ALERT*******************
Now that all is reaveled, you can also jump out of the Cave but it is riskier unless you know what your doing, You can also get stuck in Crevices big enough for one ship and hide there. You can also enter the Cave through the walls with out jumping through them but that I'll keep a secret!..........You can indeed make the whole astroid, cave and all invisible, even the hidden treasures in the cave but that requires a certain technique that some actually managed to do by accident....;):P:P:P:P:P:P:P

Since the Object of the Asteroid Caves are made from drawn Surfaces instead of drawn Solids, the walls are very thin and easy to get through........to change this and make the Astroid Caves drawn as a Solid would require a lot of extra drafting and extra resources and probably would slow down a lot of Computers with limited resources. I think the way it is, is very cool. And anybody can learn the techniques required to take advantage of the current way the Caves are
and are available to all. So I do not see it as a bug or cheat. It is not like you hacked the game to improve your chances by making you invincible. You are just using elements of the game to your advantage, like you are using your skills and the agility of an Evoch-E against a slower slugisher Starmaster. A Starmaster is an easier target to hit than an Evoch-E........;):P:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

I suppose that this would never have arisen if SeeJay hadn't chosen a cave for LMS! :D

Yes he did!........so we can play golf with the extra cannon balls...it gets quite boring some times in that big open space of Evochron......;):P:P:P:P:P:P

Actually I played a space game called Allegiance and you could be a turrent gunner and it was a blast. This Evochron blows that game away.
