Jumpdrive problems

Post by Vicrry »

Brand-new pilot here, and I was messing around with the jumpdrive. The problem I was having was that when I would enter a destination on the Navigation console and click go, it would randomly jump to another sector at the same coordinates.

Example: I ask it to jump to 40k,40k in sector 0,0,0 and I end up at 40k,40k in sector 0,0,1. There a cause for this or a solution? I've still got a demo copy, but as soon as the nav computer is reliable I'd probably get it.

 I assume you're not entering coordinates in the SX, SY and SZ windows. So, could you post a screen shot of your entries?

Vicrry, sometimes players mistakenly use ALT+ when jumping. I hope that's not your problem.
Also when jumping to random co-ords it is a good idea to set pitch at zero. Use the ladder like display to set pitch.
Without more info, that's the best suggestions I can make.
I am sure we can figure it out as it works fine for all the rest of us. :)

:o What MMaggio said. If you have a class 1 Fulcrum jump drive and you use the Alt key, it will send you one sector past your current one.

Hello Vicrry, I hope this picture is what you see. If not let us know.:)

I entered sort of what you posted but I put 40,40,40 in the cord section. Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in Multi-Player sometime.:)

So I looked into what ALT+Jump does. It just launches to max range straight ahead?

Also, my ALT, CTRL, and shift keys are a bit BIOS sticky and don't always recognize as being released. Time to go unbind something...

Edit: Got a screenshot, but the resize didn't do it any favors.

That was my next question. So you did use ALT + Jump? That explains it as it overrides the jump points.:)

 And, yes, you do jump in the direction you're headed ... both in azimuth and elevation. It can really send you off into the boondocks if you have a Mantis drive.

Hi Viccry, welcome to the game and forum. Like said before when you Auto jump make sure your pitch is 0 and your direction is facing the set Nav point. Hope to see you out there some time.....;)

 The default Alt+F2 is a last-ditch maneuver for when you're surrounded by enemy forces and forgot to set a waypoint. Pitch and heading aren't nearly as important as getting as far away as possible. But pitch, heading and inertial drift are important when jumping to a gate or station. For gates and stations, cancel drift and keep your nose on the horizon (pitch=0). And, for gates, turn to a heading of either zero or 180 (all gates are oriented that way).

 Boondocks. Platform made of wooden planks extending out into the river for the purpose of tying up keelboats. These were the boats used by Davy Crockett while making way up or down the river. And, as everyone of a certain age knows, Fess Parker, who played Davy Crockett, also played Daniel Boone, inventor of the boondock.

Was is Davey Crockett or Daniel Boone who wore a Dox-fur hat?

Not many people know that Davey was quite civilised and domesticated when he wasn't running around the wild west - he invented a game played on lawns using balls, hoops and mallets. He was also a keen cook and created a small fried food roll containing usually as main ingredients mashed potatoes, and/or minced meat or fish. Though some say that he get the recipe from the indigenous Americans he met.

Might be useful ijn a trivia quiz! :P

I just copies Dave's spelling. All fault lies squarely with him.

 NP ... a re-enactment guy corrected me on the spelling a few years back. He also insisted that Davy never actually wore a racoonskin cap.

Just like at home - everything's my fault and if it isn't now, it will be sson! :P

Anyway, it's not my fault if he can't spell his name properly :)
