If I switch from Xp to Windows 7 can I take my Mercenary pilot file with me without losing any rank, money or missions?
Will it work?

I think if you copied your ME root folder (c:/sw3dg) to a USB stick or something and paste it back in the same location after installing W7, I don't think you should have any problems. (Don't forget to put a shortcut of the .exe file back on your desktop too). I don't think that EM writes any files to other locations, so you should be ok. But don't just take my word for it though, I'm pretty new to the game myself and there are probably people here who can talk from experience.

Copy your hud folder(if you have one) and pilot and map files to a flash drive and transfer them after you install the game on your new system. It is a good idea to have back ups of these files at all times and current files in case of drive failure. From post: 112897, Topic: tid=7895, author=Star King wrote:If I switch from Xp to Windows 7 can I take my Mercenary pilot file with me without losing any rank, money or missions?

This thread offers some important information on backing up and transferring:

Viper is right, the game will keep everything together in the same folder unless you specify different parameters during installation or with the savedir.txt option.

Hi Star King.
I did just that some months ago.
Copied the Mercenary folder to a different hard drive and installed Win 7.
Pasted all needed files back and it worked great.
