What type of setup would you suggest?

Post by S.S. Vanatos »

Hey all.

I have just recently purchased Evochron Merc, (which after only playing for around 3 hours I have decided is the best game of all time), and I was wondering something. How many of you use joysticks vs. keyboard and mouse? I am really considering buying a joystick just for this game.

I guess my question would be: Would I be missing out on the best possible immersive experience if I just play with a keyboard and mouse, or would you suggest getting a joystick? Is there any downside to using a joystick to play?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I say get a joystick. Now, I use the KB/M, and do so very effectively, but a joystick is just more fun. Even though i bought a few for this game and don't use them much.

Ya Van, joystick over mouse/keyboard combo. I think it does come in handy, especially in combat formations. I use all three, as a matter of course. Although, there is one EM pilot whom I know of, that uses the kbd/ms combo exclusively, and performs extremely well. It's really all about what works best for you. So, come find out! Welcome aboard, as well! :P :cool:

A Stick is the way to fly this sim (imho).

I use the X52 system and it works great.

Definitely a joystick and keyboard for me much more realistic and fun.

The joystick I use is Logitech Extreme3D PRO not bad for the price.

See you in multiplayer sometime recommend it. :)

A joystick is more realistic, I would go with that if you can get your hands on one. Plus a big speaker system which I have, which ads a more intense effect when in combat.

I just use a keyboard and mouse, and enjoy it that way. Always have used that with other space sims. But on the other hand, I never had a joystick ever, so I wouldn't know how your gaming experience would be with one. Judging by the other replies it might be worth thinking about.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! Judging by the response I'll have to get one. That Logitech sounds enticing. Now off to Ebay...

If you are going to Ebay, may I suggest an oldie but goodie Saitek X45? You will NOT be disappointed. just make sure you contact the seller and ask him to verify everything works.
That way, if it doesn't, Ebay will make him take it back.
Good Hunting.

I ended up with the Logitech 3D pro, being as broke as I am at moment, it's price was enticing.
Mmaggio, I took a look at the Saitek X45 after I had already purchased the Logictech. It looks like a nice stick!
I know I'll end up purchasing a nicer one eventually, and that may end up being it.
