 SeeJay has reminded me that R1 is a no-rules* server. Ergo, anyone who plans to participate but doesn't care to engage in a little horseplay, be advised that there are five diffferent courses. And SeeJay has already posted his start location. And Seejay likes horseplay. So, unless you intend to engage SeeJay, I suggest taking one of the other four routes.

;) As compensation, SeeJay has offered the services of HB's awards-maker. A nice, fancy citation for the winner will be posted at the top of this thread.

* Not counting the rules laid down for the rally. Those will be enforced.

 As promised, below is the list of questions that will be answered at various places along each of the routes. Again, let me caution that the answers given during the rally need not be accurate ... but, for purposes of the rally, they will be the only answers accepted as correct.

QUESTIONS

1. Q: According to Ray Bradbury, what’s the best way to defeat wickedness?

2. Q: The character Alf got his first name and his likeness from a bottle of what?

3. Q: I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 100. What number am I thinking of?

4. Q: According to Terry Pratchett, who was the fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse?

5. Q: What was King Henry VIII middle name?

6. Q: Who caused a blackout in Colorado Springs in the summer of 1899?

7. Q: Who introduced Velcro to the U.S.?

8. Q: What color is the star nearest your current pitstop?

9. Q: How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?

Note: this list will also be available in the first post, directly underneath the rules.

LOL.

I think what Denny means is that it's a competition and running together might not
be the best solution if one tries to win. Especially since weapons are hot!;)

I just want to be sure about the starting time of the race.

When I calculate it 12:00 noon Pacific Time (Los Angeles including daylight saving time) equals 7PM GMT, not 8PM.

Is it 12:00 noon Pacific Time OR 8PM GMT?

If possible, I would prefer 8PM GMT. (Equals 1PM Pacific Time.)

:o That's why I hate Daylight Savings Time. Nothing concerning GMT or UTC or Zulu makes sense during DLST.

 How about this:
  • Anyone can join the rally, even if they do not sign up.
  • But only those who do sign up will receive the benefit of the doubt for time.
In other words, we will hold the start time for a maximum of one hour (from the original start time of 12:00 noon Pacific DLST) for those who sign up ... but show up late. Everyone else who shows up after start time ... well, it's catch up or they can sit it out.

For this option to work, I'll need to modify the rules ... requiring everyone who has signed up to log on to the R1 server prior to me releasing the passwords to SeeJay's website. (Btw, speaking of which ... make sure you have the link to his website handy.) Then, either at start time or after all listed players log on, I'll post the passwords.

:o Only problem is, players will then need to log off so they can install the file to their main game folder. (If anyone knows an easier way to solve this problem, post here ... ASAP.)

Probably best solution would be to record time or start and arrival and then calculate the race time.

Just as they do for real rallyes... cars don't start together.

I dunno if the time is logged into the chat, if it's not then Marvin or MM as referee will have to post time as the player join message is in the chat and when he state he's at the finish line.

Answers will be checked by U2U later but time will be recorded this way and everyone will have the ability to do the rallye when they want provided one of the two or more referee are online.

What do you think of this?
Best regards

A good idea for the next rally - probably too close for the start to organise and check for this one. Marvin has stopped the F1 bunched start by having 5 start points and by not having a start as such - it'll depend on how quickly people can get set up and be off! It's more like a ""Wacky Races" or "The Great Race" movie with every one chaotically dashing around -should be fun.

I didn't want to mention it because it is great of Marvin to put all the effort in organising and creating the rally anyway! Thanks marvin :)

I like the well thought-through chaos myself.

Does this mean that I can still compete, even if I'm late?

I'll try to log on 7pm GMT (12 Pacific Time) but it all depends
on when I can get kids to bed and wife occupied with
something far away from the computer, LOL!

A solution might be to time all players. Takes a lot of
timing equipment unless MM have timers on the server
for each player. Time could start directly when each pilot
log on after installing the race file.

Every time a player joins, chats, gets killed or completes a contract, the time is logged on the server.
Does that help any?

I will not be around for the Rally tomorrow because I'm going on a Pike fishing trip , but I would like to wish everyone good luck and I hope you all have a lot of fun. And my hat's off to Marvin for putting it all together.

May the best man win!

Another solution might involve bunches of flowers and boxes of chocolates and things like that . . . . ;)

 It helps a lot, MMaggio. I'll post a modified version of the rules in a couple hours ... something similar to what Denny suggested.

 Okay, here are the new procedures:

At Rally Time (or thereabouts):

1. Check the first post in this thread for User name and Password.
2. Go to SeeJay's website at: http://evochron.junholt.se/
3. Click on the "Road Rally in Space" button on the left side.
4. Enter the User name and Password.
5. Download your specific file.
6. Place the file in the main folder of the game.
7. Start the game and log on to the Remula 1 server.
8. Announce in Chat that you're starting the rally.
9. Begin the rally.

MMaggio's Chat Log will record your start time and also your end time (you probably won't need to announce that you've finished the rally but, if you like, go ahead and make the announcement in Chat). Both MMaggio and I will calculate how long it took each pilot to complete the course. We will then compare our math and decide the winner.

The planned start time is still 12:00 noon Pacific DLST ... that's when I'll post the User name and Password you'll need to access the Rally section of SeeJay's website. You can start the rally any time after that (do not forget to send a Chat message before starting). Be advised, if you show up more than an hour late ... I might be about 2 sheets to the wind and unable to accept any more entries.
