It has begun. A brief foray into Aries has seen the first few stations built, the first few steps toward total control of the sector. Though the locals react with great hostility, they are but rabble to bring to heel. They fight well enough, though somewhat robotically, but they lack vision. This I will provide for them.

Placing that first station sure felt right.

Also met a local pirate warlord who decided to throw his lot in with mine. Welcome Jack Dandy to the Drifters.

 The Aries system is appropriately named and cannot be tamed except in SP. Good luck, guys.

I know it Marv. In MP I consider percentage of control to be 'taming." It was a deliberate choice to pick the most hostile unclaimed gated sector available. Both for the combat focus of the Drifters, and because who the heck else wants Aries :D

Thanks for the good luck wishes, you are right about us needing it I think.

 I could loan you Starbuck. He has a habit of setting up shop in hostile regions of space. It goes with the name, I suppose.

Went back on and ended up in a mini-PvP tournament with [UE] Rush, [SG] Cindy, and [SG] Fighter001. It was a great time, and a small taste what I had in mind when I started the Drifters. Thanks all for participating!

More PvP action! Saw [DD] Jack Dandy out there, [UE] Rush and GDF Powell. The latter of which ended my win streak which had been well in to the double digits. Powell is one heck of a fighter pilot. Well done! I don't know how clan-mate JD fared, as I got D/C and can't seem to get past 72 percent logging back on. Give em hell Jack.

off to buy a new router.

Nice seeing you out there Jack.

Aries is coming along nicely. Despite a couple dozen reds everywhere I look, I'm told control is at 100 percent. Built about 30 stations and some research stations. even built an ore processor because hey, why not and ore processor? I'm sure it does something or other. Process ore maybe.

PvP fights a'plenty today with Rush, SeeJay, Shieldwolf, Cindy, and I'm sure I'm missing someone or other. Thanks all for the fun and practice!

Spent a precious few moments on R1. Conducted a few PvP runs with Jack Dandy, whose fierce and daring style ended with a lot of pretty fireworks. Got d/c and unfortunately must attend to business outside of EM for most of the rest of the day. Also had some comm time with powell attempting to set up the clan practice server. I will be back tomorrow, probably all day. Good hunting Drifters.

A day in the office hamming out the details of Drifter business. Rank structure and training talks with #2 and some input from Jack. In discussion with 3 potential recruits. You know, busy work. Back out for some space time late night, east coast Aries time.

Met a humble weapon smuggler during a search for a Shield Recharger system.
Fought off an ambush of pirates, trying to get us a quiet area to trade.
After finally fighting them all off, the trade commenced, and I promptly evaporated my cargo.

Next time, I'll try to equip things when I'm in a hangar instead.

Had a throw-down with [V] Vonari-R in and about Sierra. This guy was good, but a 2 on 1 situation ended decidedly in favor of the Drifters. [DD] Powell showed great courage and ability, and I flew a spaceship too.

Mecingo also answered the call and arrived just a tad late.

Today, I learned the difference between a black hole and a super-massive binary star.

The hard, painful way.

Multiple times. At least I got some badass photos.

Also, I set up my weapon systems just right, and will now actively engage in battles once more.

Aries, Merak, Fauston, Talison, Cygnus, and 3 previously isolated systems, have decided to invite the Drifters in to keep order. They have indeed made a wise choice, as control in all systems exceeds 95 percent now. I have been venturing further into the deep of space of within our borders, valiantly trying to find other cut-off enclaves, and make an offer of our particular brand of humanitarian aid. Or some missiles and cannon fire. Their choice. Freedom is important.

Can't seem to log in this morning so let's recap yesterday.

Found and worked up a new hidden sector. PvP against Vonari-W. Vonari-P. Powell, and others. Good day on my end there.

The space chatter flew fast and furious, and...i'd rather log in than write this, actually.

Short flight for yours truly today. Powell was training Airassassin on the finer points of obliterating enemies, and AA ranked up enough to have his pick of fine military grade spacecraft. We are now up to 5 gated sectors and 5 hidden that give control points, making our total territory 10 sectors. Not too bad.

Too much going on to explain all of the glorious details, so a quick highlight of today's events include

- Fighting TER StarscreaM for the first time
- Helping a new pilot on an IMG mission
- Maxing out territory and helping an ally with a problem in one of his sectors
- Training with Rush and Cindy
- High level clan training with Powell and Regent, and helping Reg up his military rank. Now that he is back online we will be a force to be reckoned with. Great tactical minds those two.

Things are proceeding quite well. Stay tuned.

Heres my gamepad layout as I programmed it (for 20$)

Notice i set up the right joystick to (up) thrust + max weapons energy + accelerate [....and in the up position the joystick almost touches the #4 button with is fire laser/cannons] + click to target subsysems
(down) = decelerate + max energy to shields [this is the reason its so hard to do damage to me in flight]
(left and right) = rolls

Right joystick controls directionals + click to IDS on/off

Being able to switch instantly from max energy to weapons (in pursuit or chargeing forward) to max energy to shields
while decelerating evening if drifting forward in attack along with the buttons for boosting shields. You can see by the layout that there is one weakness and one weakness only, but is hard to take advantage in pvp [port shield.]

This layout had the advantage of being able to adjust energy to shields/weapons, turn IDS on and off and fire or target anything instantly without takeing your eyes off the target/screen.

also helpful to roll and spin when swarmed to distribute damage across all shields. easy enough to do with two joysticks

not likely more, more buttons and options but not more with less effort. gamepad rules in that dept.

with two thumbs i can ...

control my flight directionals
lock a targets subsystems
afterburn
decelerate
fully max energy to shields
fully max energy to weapons
fire lasers and cannons
turn IDS on or off
roll left or right

without them leaveing the joysticks :P

then there are the other fingers and buttons :P

personally I dont think the joystick compares.

post your layout maybe Im wrong...
