Any ideas to improve performance?

Post by AceOfSpades »

after this one **
Hi, just bought this game via gamersgate. Upon first starting the game up without changing options , the game would freeze at 94% and give a decryption error. After searching these forums and trying all the various cures it came down to lowering my graphics settings. This perplexes me because I am able to run far more "taxing" and newer games than this at max or near max settings, so it seems to me that i should be able to get more performance out of this, I cannot even use shaders.

My options settings are:
Resolution optimized
Color 32bit
background nebulae off
start detail low
3d cockpit on
shaders off
graphic detail medium
planet detail low
screenmode optimized max VSYNC

As you can see the settings are about as low as they go, If I change anyone of them I get the error, so this is as best as it gets for me.

These are my sysytem settings.

Any ideas to improve performance?

Normally I would just edit the above post but since this may be important info I thought I would put it in the form of a reply.
Knowing that there seems to be a memory issue(why I do not understand) I decided to try a fix from another game that woudl crash after lengthy play with a memory error. This is the cure:

Using a program called CFF explorer (you can download for free after a quik search) I opened the Evochron exe....after clicking on "file header" on the left side of the cff explorer window and then clicking on the "click here" button on the right side of the same window brings up a series of statements with checkboxes next to them. Make sure there is a check box next to "App can handle >2gb of address space" then click on file and "save" DO NOT click on save as...overwrite the file when prompted.

This now allows me to have all the graphics options set to the max setting in this game and play as I should be able with the system I have.

If this fix is located in some FAQ or something somewhere then my apologies for the waste of space :)
If it is not then maybe a stickied post can be made containing the fix or added to a FAQ might be a good idea...thanks.
Great game btw.....

 This fix might come in handy ... even with other games. Which OS are you running?

Since your useing win 7, you may want to look into 'ready boost'. Just use an SD micro card/USB flash drive and goto computers rickclic the drive - properties- and the tab for ready boost and dedicate it . you now have a system that uses all ram and solidstate media and should rarely if ever drop down to drive reading/writing speeds. (unless your drive is a solid state drive then ignore this, frankly a $12.oo SD micro card/usb flash is cheaper)

Hint : if useing the usb flash drive, use the port with USB 2.x or higher for best performance boost. SD micro ports are already fast so thats the prefered optino for me, and I choose Sd Micro cards that prefess to be unaffected by heat for long hrs of play.

Just my two cents, I will be looking for the file you mentioned

 I assume you put the SD card in the slot before clicking on the drive properties.
