New rookie, with a question about saving

Hi everyone,

I am new to the game and I think it is exactly what I was looking for.

I have just begun the IMG quest, and so far, so good... But, like every rookies I think (I hope), I die a lot (crash on planets, missile hits, etc), so I need to save frequently.
However, I have saving issues and sometimes it didn't work. For example, I have saved my profile in a station with a defined new objective. I go to the NAV point, do the mission and make a quick saving... no effect. If I finish the mission, return to the station and save my profile, no effect... I always reload at the same station with the same objective.
It seems that the saving works only after having an all new objective... I think i have miss something...
So, any advice or explanation would help me a lot.

Hello fredebec, you can not save during a mission so save before you pick the mission. To save I hit "esc" then I pick the choose profile button so that I can save at different spots without losing an old save. Then if I don't like what I did I can go back to any prior saved point. Remember you CAN NOT save during a mission. Hope this helps. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you out there sometime.

It means that as soon as I receive a message saying that the mission is complete I can save, even in space? I donâ€™t need to go to a station or a planet?

I imagine I have to go and protect this ship againâ€¦

correct, you can save anywhere anytime except durring contract/mission

You can save anywhere as long as you are not involved in any contract.

There is also a save shortcut, Alt+F9 if I recall correctly.

Hi Fredebec, welcome to the game and forum. Hope to see you out there. Once you hava accepted a mission you can not Save till you complete the mission. I have programmed one of the buttons on my X52 as a Save button.....

ah. just when I was about to ask about this too!

Imo, the save option should be grayed out (with a hint text) when saving is not possible, just to avoid future confusion of newbies like myself

It is a bit confusing in its current state.

Does this apply to Distress Calls as well ?

I did a distress call and not realising I saved before making the delivery landing and there was no reward.

As far as I know you don't "accept " a distress call - you just try to beat everyone else to it so that you can save at any point.

I've got cargo bays of rescue stuff and just head off asap!

You have a certain time limit to deliver. Did the time limit run out after saving and before the delivery and did you deliver to the right place and coordinates?;)

Yes I think so but then I am a noob

, Cerulean I had 67 seconds to spare when I landed, I remember vividly. Had time to double check and go round for another landing. It was Oxygen and I had 25 plus another 13 gathered on the way in to the landing. I have done that before and it worked. But this time I saved.

I thought I might have made a mistake with the destination so I checked the nav map by mousing over it when zoomed in and the planet I was on matched the distress call name so I could not understand it other than that I did save on the way in to land.

I think saving while trying to complete a distress call will disqualify you for the reward. Remember the distress call continues the countdown if you exit and save and go for coffee or lunch and come back and reenter the game after.
The distress call has actually expired while it might show the countdown still active from the save and might also be different in MP as the distress calls in MP are generated by the Server....
