Rookie Damodar reporting for duty

Hi there guys.
I've bought this awesome game some weeks ago but I didn't have time to play it properly until a couple of days. I've read several times the forum, but I need to ask for your advice regarding combat.

What I usually do is fly to the enemy (not in front of it) like slightly to one of my sides with IDS x3. When I'm almost at range of my weapons I switch to inertial and pass strafing near the enemy blasting it with my lasers. I usually only use the missiles in case of emergency since my frame just have two slots (I still have the first frame)

Usually I don't ahve any problems agains two bandits, but sometimes I have a rough time against 4. I guess I just need more practice, but if you can give me any advice I will be very gratefull.

Best way to learn combat, and other tricks of the trade, is to join in on MP. You'll find plenty of pilots who will help you out. And, you're assured of a warm welcome from clan BA.

You say you only use lasers? What about adding a particle gun as well.

Many tactics you can use for combat, you'll find yours in time. PVP with skilled pilots is good way to learn some tactics...

@SeeJay I use the particle cannons aswell, I was just using an expresion

Thanks everyone for your responses, bit a bit I'm doing it better. Strafing with innertia mode usually works fine.

I honestly didn't try the MP because I'm a shy guy, but I'll problably log in soon.

Hey guys. I just wanted you to know that I'm getting better at this. Now I even dare to fight agains 4 reds.

But anyway, I have a couple of questions. Several times I read you can hire a wingman to help you in tough missions, how do I hire those wingmen?

The other thing is about the lasser cannons. Do they only do damage to shields or can they damage the enemy's ship aswell?

Lasers only damage shields. they have no kinetic energy and have no affect on hulls.
To hire a wingman you must approach a "friendly or green" ship to within trading distance, open the trade menu and click on "hire".

Just another thing. On every space sim I've played I've been always the good guy. Is it posible to be a pirate in EM? Or am I doomed to do missions and trade routes?

There was a clan [PFL] Pirates for life, and they may still be around. You may find yourself out numbered and out gunned though. Good luck out there.

Actually, you may be anything you want to be. If you want to go around shooting up friendlies to steal their cargo, you can do that, But I suggest you be very careful when selecting other players as targets to steal from.

Don't worry, I've been reading the forum for a while and don't want to do any piracy against other players. My purpose is trying to live as a pirate in SP.
Could you give me any hints about this in SP? How does the reputation thing works and how could affect me as a pirate?

If you randomly attack ships without regard to their alliance then your reputation will decrease with those factions and you will have more ships treating you as a hostile in that System. This would be the goal you seek it seems so have fun.

You can also consider Rebels and Guild as fellow pirates and help them claim territory.

Killing Navy and Energy and doing Guild and Rebel contracts will shift the reputation in that system, once the Rebels and Guild reach 100% and Navy and Energy 0% I assume the system will be set as a Rebel/Guild system, just like you can the other way arround.

In SP being a Pirate can be lucrative...Because you can bribe the AI's at least that was the case in Legends I do not know if bribing is possible in Mercenary though. Also to hire wing men you have to be within targeting range and target the ship you want to hire....

Hi again guys.

I'm not sure if being a pirate can be taht lucrative in this game, probably is due to the fact that I still need to improve my fighting skills A LOT.
I was thinking in the kind of piracy you can do in X3 or even Darkstar One. If Vice reads this I hope he can take in consideration and think to do something like this in the future.
What you could do in those other games was stealing their ship or even the cargo if you damage them enough and get a nice amount of credits selling their ship and goods. The only way of piracy I've seen in EM so far is just scan the cargo and if it's worth it blow the ship. I think it's faster doing missions, I don't know what do you guys think about this.

And of course I'm talking about single player

Actually Damodar everyone is intimidated by MP untill they try it.
Shooting down reds in MP gets easier the more you shoot.
I was so intimidated that i thought MP was impossible, now I know
better.
Join MP and other pilots will help you.

If you looking for lucrative ways to gain wealth then Piracy is not the way to go in EM. You have to find lucrative trade runs if your looking for wealth in EM. There are some reports of 90 million profit per trade run.....!;):P
