Well.... Thats unfortunate
Hello, I am actually having issues with the game starting up. Every time I try to start the game it either gives me the "Evochron Legends.EXE has stopped working" or doesn't load..... EVER!!!.... Black screen, upon which, sometimes gives me an error message that says "system error: severe exception" or something of that nature. As for my system specs, it am really not sure what would be relevant. I am trying to run the game on an Alienware m11x laptop w/ 4 GB RAM. Help would certainly be appreciated

Hello josef96, below is a post by the game creator so follow the lead and see if it helps.
I've been able to pin down where the problem occurs on certain Alienware systems. For whatever reason, these particular laptops and desktops (and perhaps a few others) can fail to return needed data regarding connected control devices, resulting in the hault. I haven't yet determined exactly what data is lacking, invalid, or incompatible, but I have been able to develop a work-around by simply bypassing the initial automatic control detection system in the game. The game seems to launch and run fine after the detection system is disabled. If you would like to download the patched EXE, use the link below:
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegen ... egends.zip
Then to install it, replace the old EXE in the game's install folder with the one in the ZIP above. Launch the game as normal using the desktop icon. Be sure to keep the original installer handy in case you want to return to the previous build.

Hmmm. Guess I spoke to soon.... That didn't seem to do much.... If anything.... I did put it in the right folder, that much I know. But it did the exact same thing that it did before. Anything else that I should be doing that I am not?

Did you extract the new exe and replace the old one? Check the dates of both the old and new files, make sure it was changed.

It works fine on my Alienware M11x test laptop, so unless something else has changed with them recently that mine lacks, it should work fine. Have you tried running it as admin? Have you tried Mercenary and if so, what were the results?

I have run it as an admin before, but then it either gives me a permanent black screen or gives me the "system error: severe exception" msgbox.

I would take it from that statement that all is well. From post: 104156, Topic: tid=7398, author=josef96 wrote:I downloaded Evochron Mercenary and it worked fine.
What probs are you still having?

Difficult to say what the cause might be when it works fine on the identicial system for others (including myself) using the replacement file above. I would suggest going through the standard steps, analyze your physical available memory in msinfo, check and temporarily disable unnecessary background tasks, try compatibility modes, etc. However, the problem still sounds like the Alienware compatibility issue discussed in the other thread which is solved by the replacement file above. So, I take it that there is no solution to my problem..... Yet?

By, it, I was actually referring to Mercenary. Is there any particular reason the exe isn't working? I have entirely disabled UAC to make absolutely sure it was actually replacing it. I will try the other steps, but if none of those work would I be better off installing on a different computer? From post: 104248, Topic: tid=7398, author=MMaggio wrote:I would take it from that statement that all is well. From post: 104156, Topic: tid=7398, author=josef96 wrote:I downloaded Evochron Mercenary and it worked fine.

Well, I believe, or would at least slightly think, that my problem lay in the fact that I have 1.30 GHz processor when the recommended is 2.0 GHz but I thought Evochron Mercenary had the same system specs as Evochron Legends and it seems to have a good frame rate. Is there something I am mis-reading/not getting?

Did you get any error messages? Did you make sure all the files and the exe is in the swd3 folder and the shortcut icon on your desktop has the right path to the exe? Follow Vice's outlined steps....
