Font trouble
I have been trying to use other fonts in EM but I have been having a problem.
The problem is that I cannot find a good size for the font. It does not seem to matter which font I use, either.
If I set the font big enough for me to read the small text, such as in the trade screen, then the font is too big for the HUD and overflows the boundaries.
If I set the font smaller, so that the text fits into the HUD as needed, then it is too small to be able to read in the trade screen.
I tried setting the font to zero, thinking that zero might trigger some default size or other magical program-only setting. In this case, the font was big enough to read in the trade screens, but invisible in the HUD.
So far, though, nothing has worked. I have nothing against the default font, but I would like to play around a bit.

I just copied the Arial font from my Windows 7 PC...renamed it "evochronfont" and replaced the default.
No problems and I can read it pretty well
...I ALSO changed the radio chatter to a "silent" .wav file which makes things soooo much better. 10 seconds of silence...
Now I just need to change the warp sound to a Dr. Who theme. LOL

Hello iservenomaster, I tried the win7 fonts but they seem bigger than the Sim's. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you out there sometime.

I really wish you hadn't said that. Now I've got to drop everything, learn to mod ships and cockpits, build a TARDIS (inside and out) ... and substitute the Doctor Who sound effect I've had sitting in the attic of my HD for years. From post: 102577, Topic: tid=7298, author=iservenomaster wrote:Now I just need to change the warp sound to a Dr. Who theme.

Thanks for the warm greetings!
OK, I finally got the Dr Who theme so I figured I would provide links for the items I mentioned before...
Arial Font renamed "evochronfont"

Silent .wav renamed "radiochatter"
http://www.mediafire.com/?jssdkrjjdicd345
Dr Who theme in .wav format
(edit it for length as you see fit) or just enjoy listening.

I tried renaming a font to evochronfont, but this caused the font to be replaced by a generic sans serif font, not the one I selected. I have no idea how that happened. Maybe there was a typo and the font selected by default is some kind of sans serif font?

I thought I'd share my setfont.txt in case folks want to try it. While there are some areas where a LONG string will run outside the box, for the most part this to me is quite readable and pleasing along with fitting into the "tech" look of the game.

I run at 1680x1050 resolution, in case that matters.

With all the issues I've been having lately, one would think I'm new at this pc gaming stuff. . .

You just have to use the "print screen" key, and then paste the screenshot in Paint (or others) in order to save it
