A few brief (and possibly dumb) questions

Post by Tillmen »

Good morning.

Well I must say that I stumbled across this game while searching for space sims, and it just simply blew me away. I love the level of detail and depth that has gone into this game (I'm not afraid of a steep learning curve, the more complex the better).

However, as I read the reviews and surfed the forums, I didn't think my lap top would run this game...how happy I was to discover there was a free demo! I downloaded it, and fired it up, to find out.... it appears to work just fine! My settings aren't maxed out, but the game seems to be running smoothly (I don't have a high end gaming comp).
Now the question that I have is this.... the demo that I downloaded is the full game correct? Later today when I buy the game off impulse, I'm not going to find that the full version is unworkable? In other words....if I can run the demo okay... I can run the full game fine as well? Sorry if thats a rather dumb question, but I feel I should ask none the less.

Also in my time flying around and playing with the controls, I was wondering if anybody can point me to a quick command guide or page (I skimmed the manual but didn't find much). That is... is there a list of game commands to be found anywhere (you know, the standard "Open Inventory Panel ='s F3 sorta thing?) I find myself constantly fumbling around trying to remember what buttons do what, and it would be nice to have a reference to look at.

Other then that not much else to really say. I look forward to learning to play.

Hello and welcome Tillmen.

Yes, it's the full game in the demo.

You can also buy the game here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... rchase.htm
I did and got the key right away.

You have a complete keybord mapping in your game map.

Hope to see you out there in MP.;)

Also, whilst you're playing the game, you can always hit "Esc" and go to the "Configure Keyboard" it lists all the keyboard commands - you can also assign those keyboard commands to the buttons on your joystick.

The demo is, and isn't the entire game. It is, in the sense that the entire game is there, but, you are locked out of it. The demo only, the last time I used it, consists of one sector, you could say, solar system, amongst the many other sectors in the game - it is huge!

Welcome to the forum, and, I hope to see you in MP when you have purchased the unlocking key.

Hello Tillmen, I run the Sim on an old slow laptop at times and works good at low settings. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you out there sometime.:)

Hi Tillmen, welcome to the game and forum. Hope to see you out there some time....There is also a Keyboard map which has all the Key mappings on it in your Game folder C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\keyboard.jpg. Substitute C for your drive letter where the game folder is installed.....;)

:o Me either. Btw, the latest beta release of the game can only be found here, at the forum. It contains some key commands that, as of yet, aren't documented. It is also targeted to be the next official release ... so you might want to DL and install it so as to give it a test run.

Ahhhh very good. Thank you all very much for all your help. It's nice to see such a helpful and active forum (as opposed to the old standard "shut up noob! find it yourself" stuff you often come acrross on other game forums)

Is the keyboard reference guide available in black and white? I'm having trouble doing it myself because of my silly printer doesn't like colors. :(

Most printers should be able to print it in black and white even if they can't print color, unless it is a very, very old printer....No, there is no black and white reference keyboard guide available. But you could probably create one from the existing one in paint!.....;)

Another question, if the game ran well in the EM demo, will my system run the actual game well also?

Here are my specs:

Mobile Athlon 64 (Newark) 754 pin 4000+ @ 2.6Ghz, non overclock
DFI lanparty UT NF3 250gb
1 gig Mushkin ram (2 x 512 mb) (actually 1.5 gigs, but unmatched, also this motherboard only supports 3 ram slots...)
HIS Ice Q Radeon HD 4670 1 Gb AGP
74 gig raptor as system drive
450W Antec ECO PSU active PFC
AOpen H700B full tower case (mostly empty now, was full of harddrives..now dead)
HP 2509b 25" display
I'm using a Thermalright xp-120 with 120mm panaflo fan, artic silver 5

The monitor is an upgrade from an old 17" crt, BIG difference. The video card is a new addition also, I used to have an ATI x1650pro. I'm not likely to do a new build for the next several years and I'm confident my system will run the game alright based off my experience with the demo.

Hi Angitherias.

The demo is the full game. It's just "locked" to a small part of the whole game
so it will be no difference when locking it up with your purchased key.
