Welcome me aboard!

Post by Tomwa »

Hey guys new to the forum (I just registed) and I came here for a few reasons.

1) I want a space sim game like Freelancer or Dark Star One (Both were fantastic games) but not as impossibly complicated as X3 - Terran Conflict (Which was a traumatic waste of money).

2) To ask if I should buy Mercenary or Legends (Mercenary is apparently newer but that doesn't technically mean better, and I don't have the money for both (Heh don't have the money for ONE right now but I will by the end of the week ;) ).

3) To see if this is going to be a nice happy community or a terrible one (God Knows that when I play a game I live on it's forums and I don't want to be around a bunch of immature people)

So, I ask you to enlighten me as to whether or not I should buy this game, is it truly as "endless" as it says? Is the multiplayer fun? Is there any potential for mods? Any outstanding bugs? ect.

And yes I read though the "Changes in Mercenary thread" ;) (Though honestly it seems like more of a "Big Update" than a "new game" but eh)

Hi Tomwa, welcome to Evochron!

You've definitely come to the right place! To answer your questions:

This game is more of a simulation than Freelancer (I haven't played Dark Star One) but not as complicated as X3 to learn.

If you can only buy one then go for Mercenary... it has better graphics and generally more of everything. Plus it's the game that most people are playing in multiplayer. You'll find most players using the Remula one server (which is free to use). Multiplayer is really good fun with lots of friendly and helpful pilots.

The community here are a great bunch... you'd be hard-pressed to find a more intelligent, mature forum with a great sense of humour too!

Yes this game truly is endless. The universe is simply massive with so many things to discover and explore. To travel the huge distances between systems you normally use the jumpgates, but if you wanted you could cross space using your ship's own jumpdrive except that it would take you a long time, maybe half an hour to traverse 1000 sectors or so. One pilot recently spent a few days travelling out 10,000 sectors and had some spooky encounters!

There are various mods available which have been created by other players. You can also download a customization kit which allows you to create your own mods.

The developer is always working (night and day it seems!) to address any bugs that are reported (which are normally very minor) and there are frequent game updates. I myself haven't come across any serious bugs that affected the enjoyment of the game.

All in all you definitely won't be wasting your money on this one! Hope to see you out in space sometime. :)

Welcome Tomwa.

I can only agree with MCCON. I'm on MP all the time I play and it's so much fun. Everybody is really helpful,
both with answering questions and joining to help with contracts.

People get into trouble every now and then and scream for their mothers.
Others rush in to assist any in situation. So much fun!;)

I played Freelancer a lot back in th days and I really liked it. It's nothing compared to this sim.
Just take a look on all the great screen-shots here in the forum. I'm currently on exploring missions
and it's very time-consuming since you never hit any "wall". It just keeps going.

I also recommend EM since that was most player use now.

Hope to see ya out there.;)

Wow MCCon that was potentially the most concise and persuasive reply to a thread like this I've ever seen , I just downloaded the demo (Just finishing the download as I post this) so I'll also be able to try it out before I buy which is nice ;) I visited the site a very long time ago when Evochron Renegades was released but I never bought it.

Speak for you self MCCON. Some people think I am nuttier that a fruit cake. (Stands up with a pair of pant on my head, and two pencils up my nose) WIBBLE!

But you are correct. This game is great. The guys here are amazing and lots of fun. Any updates to the game are provided FOC and you don't need to carry out any complicated patches. The installer does it all for you. And any progress you have made is carried over to the newer version. Progress in SP is also carried over into MP and viki verki, except a few elements like player build stations and clan territory control.

Enjoy the game, and Clan BA welcome you.
