Did this one last night:

Traveling out 1000+ sectors to the middle of nowhere, saving (to build a station), coming back (takes about 30 minutes), forget to save, buy Fulcrum Torpedoes, try to type chat message without pressing "enter" first, inadvertedly launch an FT, stare at it for several seconds wondering what on earth it is, realize what it is, panic, die in the ensuing explosion, find oneself 1000+ sectors out in the middle of nowhere again! :o

:o The "Enter" key ... curse it all. Either you forget to press it and end up doing all kinds of things you didn't intend to do or you forget you did press it and then can't do anything.

This is why I play with a stick, and why I unbound my shift key. It has really cut down on the number of deaths while trading.

As for dumb mistakes:
Remapping jump to the spacebar without realizing it. Took me a good 5 minutes to figure out why I was jumping around seemingly at random. Heh, fun times...
Space Billiards is the best game ever!
Dino-Killer, Vonari homeworld.

Cheers mate, you just gave me the best laugh this week.

Yeah, that darn enter key. The number of times I've hit it, to do a chat, the darn thing hasn't taken, and off went a salvo of Excals, or my hud disappears. I've got the habit of always making the initial letter in a chat a cap one.

From post: 98610, Topic: tid=6704, author=Eclipse wrote:I dumped my old OS onto a nice new drive (no problems there), and then decided to clean up the USB drives I have connected (this is where it got sticky).
During the course of cleaning the drives I realized that I had deleted my current Mercenary save info, so I'll be hauling out a backup set and working back up. At least it wasn't a complete loss, but irritating that I lost the maplogs I was working from.

Object lesson: make backups of your pilot and maplog files on a regular basis. :)

GR8 advice, backed up my profiles/logs yesterday

From Eclipse ... During the course of cleaning the drives I realized that I had deleted my current Mercenary save info....
 Ah-ha ... that explains the almost n00b rating you had this morning.

 Heading 180 works for a Construct station too. Even for a jumpgate.

My stupidest mistake? I was running my EM demo, and decided to the quest. I went down to new hope, to get the quest, and, well, lets just say i jumped a LITTLE too close for comfort to the city.... DOH!

Even to cities docking bays......but this is for trained professionals only. Please do not try this at home......;):P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P

Finally got round to a vacation in Sol - long way round via Alpha Centauri

Decided to make a holiday album of me landing on every planet and mining a few asteroids (no Disneyland in Sol anymore and a distinct lack of Gorfburger Joints!) ;)

Amazed to find that every asteroid I tried was solid platinum, so was every planet I landed on and the Moon! What a place! What a holiday story I was going to have to tell at Al's.

Then realised that I\'d fitted a platinum mining beam :P:P

No luck landing on Jupiter, Neptune or Saturn - I had to fight to get down to 130000 and then blew up!! (Where is Jupiter's Big Red Spot? - did I miss it? I flew around the planet a few times - perhaps the storm has finished at last! :()

Been playing on my laptop since it runs smoother and better graphics than my old desktop. Only bad thing about a laptop is resting your palm in the wrong place while typing. Rested it on the touchpad and launched 3 missiles at the targeted navy guy just off the dock. He died but his mates were po'd....... Reload :P

BTW: Love reading these forums.. get great tips without spoilers.:)
