Situation Update

Post by DennyMala »

I seems to be the only one not able to hear and send voice commes in game.

The testing software works properly and let me hear me well but when in game no one seems to be able to hear me and I don't hear them.

I have a Creative X-Fi with speakers and mic always plugged in (that I substitute with a headset when playing) and that is working great in all aspect (and in TeamSpeak too).

Any advice or solution?

I had problems with the on-board audio software conflicting with default audio settings. Originally, I figured out how to override the software but, after my son made some changes, the problem returned. Instead of messing around with it again (having forgotten what it was I did, originally), we simply deleted the on-board software.

Fixed it. No problems so far.

Mine should already be so, deactivated in BIOS.
The test program works fine though.... how can that be?

If that's the case, then the in-game setting must be disabled somehow. When you join in multiplayer and hold the player list key (default tilde '~'), are the voice icons next to the player's names blue or red? Also, are you trying to communicate with players in the same sector?

They are all blue and I was in a war zone with many people, binded as gunner to Marvin... no way to get closer than that. LOL!

From what I can see and check, it's all fine.... but it doesn't work. Oudio of the game is perfect.

Denny also tested it prior to becoming turret gunner ... without any luck. I, on the other hand, was heard by everyone except Denny. (Well, perhaps not everyone ... but I did get responses from a few players when I tested my mike.)

I really don't get it, me and Marvin have almost the same (if not the same) system and setup...

Well, we'll be on TeamSpeak talking privately until we can find a solution.

When you hold the key down, do you see the broadcast icon and your callsign appear below the text chat scroll bar? Do other players see that icon? Are you pressing and holding the numpad '.'/'Del' key as opposed to the numpad enter key in the test program?

I see the callsign in the bottom left in white but dunno about the brodcast icon... where I have to look?

Dunno if other players can see it...Marv will be here soon to answer.

I'm pressing and holding the numpad del and the other two keys I remapped the function to (Z and <)... to no avail it seems.

But it worked with the test program available in the downloads section of the game's website? If so, that's promising since they are virtually identical, meaning that the problem may be with whatever scancode the keyboard you are using is sending back or an in-game setting of some kind. There are a couple of options we can try, including forcing the game to use a different input device ID. How many sound devices do you have listed in the device manager? Can you post a screenshot of the Options menu showing the settings you are using?

Nothing came across or showed up when Denny tried to transmit. Maybe I should send him a U.S. keyboard.

LOL!

I can try switching to the US language set in Windows before playing....but that would mess many of my binded keys... and it is however an issue people in other countries around the world may have...

You can create a text file in the game's install folder named soundinput.txt and in the first line, put an integer value representing the device ID you want to use. A value of '-1' will use the default detected device, 0, 1, 2, etc will use fixed device values. But since the voice chat icon isn't even appearing when you press the key, I suspect the problem isn't related to the device being used but instead, relates to something with the keyboard.

I already remapped the key binding many times to no avail.

I'll try what Vice suggested and report back after a test with Marvin and the others this sunday.

Otherwise will see what to try next.

Vice, only a -1 in the text fine will do the trick or I have to write something else in it?
Default device means what is in use by the game for the audio, isn't it?

'-1' will be what the game is trying to use now. Changing it to other values will attempt to use different ID's.

I created the text file as you instructed me Vice and we did a test yesterday.

I see the icon you were talking about for the in game chat and the setting "sector" - "clan only".

I tried transmitting and I see my callsign plus the voice comms icon. On the receiving end Marvin only saw a half a second flash of my callsign and heard nothing (he may confirm more accurately).

I still don't hear anything of the other chats players do around me.

What else to try and what info do you need if any?

What is the exact make and model of the sound card you are using and what driver version?
