Stuttering Gameplay EMercenary
When playing Evochron Merenary the game plays smoothly when in space and on the planets, however when decending onto the planets or when firing on other vessels in space the game stutters badly.
My PC specs are:
Intel Q9650
Asus P5Q Deluxe
4GB Corsair Dominator PC2 8500 Ram
Creative XFi Titanium
GTX280 (Graphics)
GTX260 (Physx)
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit
I purchased the game directly from the games website if that makes a difference with any files that I downloaded.
Any suggestions would really help.

This happened when I upgraded my Nvidia driven. I had to roll it back to the older driver and all was find. I do notice that sometimes the Sim acts weird when I start it up but if I exit the game then restart it things seem to run fine. This may be something on my system tho. I run Win7 Pro 64 with a GT230m.

I'm getting this problem too. I also get the "stuttering" when my ship explodes. I'm currently running the v258.96 drivers for my GeForce 9600GT.
What version did you roll back to, thetiebers?
Legends runs perfectly for me if that makes any difference.

Any '256' series of Nvidia driver is pretty horribly flawed. You can read about 'micro-stuttering' and 'severe stuttering/pausing' on their forums and I posted a thread about it on this forum here: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... 151&page=1
Unless you have some critical need for using the nasty 256 drivers (which includes versions 257.15, 257.21, and 258.96), roll back to the stable 197.X set. Most gamers have pretty good success and performance with the 197.45 drivers. Nvidia has been aware of the problem for many weeks and is working on fixing these drivers. The 260.63 beta drivers have resolved many of the problems, but there are still some issues with them being worked out. You can download the beta drivers from Nvidia if you want to take the risk here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
I am running the 260.63 with good success with SW3DG games. Most other game's I've tried have worked well with them also. A few minor problems like the mouse pointer disappearing on rare occasion and some control panel settings being lost or altered seem to have occured, but otherwise they've been pretty stable.

Ok, I took Vice's suggestion and rolled back to the Nvidia v197.45 drivers. I fired up Mercenaries and viola!!! No more stuttering. All seems to be well now.
Thanks, Vice!

Welcome. And those 197.45 drivers really aren't that old, they are from this spring. It's just the new '256' series that introduced a bunch of problems. Official WHQL drivers from Nvidia should be coming along within the next month or so to fix the '256' set, we'll just have to wait and see.

That warning thread should be stickied for awhile. It saved my game too.

Thanks, 'downgrading' to the earlier NVidia drivers solved all kinds of issues I was having with Mercenary

Ah, I'm not the only one having the problem. Before I found this thread I kept lowering the graphics (Had the res down to 800x600!) and it was still stuttering like mad. D/L ing the 197.45 now, hopefully that'll sort things out.
EDIT: Installed the driver and now it works perfectly. Brilliant stuff, great game.

I had serious problems, both CTD and stutter with the official 258.96 drivers. Installing the 260.63 seems to have removed both CTD and stutter. Thanks for the heads up Vice.
