You system may just be lacking the ability to play a Windows Media file. Installing the latest Media player may work, or you can place the attached file in the game's install folder to bypass that completely.

thanks for the quick reply (as always).
all is working good now, and i have good news, Vice.
thanks to your obvously hard work to optimize the performance, and thanks to the intensive use of shaders, i've succesfully runned your marvellous software on Linux!!!!!!!!!
it worked flawless and just out of the box.
installation was straight, loading times and "launching" times are 5-10% faster in linux than in winXp (on the same machine).
sadly, with maxed details, with my poor gfx card, i only get 5-7fps in the worst conditions (city near water under the storm).
lowing all the details, i'm able to rais fpse to 12-15.
anyway, it is playable also at max details, with a bit of patience and attention in combat.
multiplayer should work, as it worked in Legends, but the low framerate could cause frequent disconnections, i'll have to check this.

Wow, I would not have thought Linux would have been a feasible option at all

That makes me stupid excited.
I tried EL under Wine, and while it started up, actually flying was not possible. Of course, that was a while ago, and Wine has evolved quite a bit since then.
This gives me a little hope, though, that perhaps Wine will be able to run the server. I'll play with that next week and see what I can find.

I have trouble starting EM as well. Everything loads music plays the launch menu comes up fine, but when I choose any option like training, launch or multiplay it loads to 100% and then just exits to windows without any error message......

Almost the exact same specs ... except I'm using an old 7950 nVidia card. And I have no problems with the game.

Having reviewed some '2 GB' systems, it seems a lot of people enjoy installing all kinds of programs that are left running in the background, depleting their 2 GB of memory down to sub-1 GB free for programs to use. This game needs a lot of memory and if you encounter a crash or error message during the loading phase or when travelling around during gameplay, it's often a result of running out of memory. Reducing the background task load and haulting programs that risk causing interference can generally resolve any such problems. You can also lower the game's memory use by changing the detail settings in the Options menu, especially 'Planet Detail'.
