Greetings,

I have been an XPlayer for years and only recently stumbled upon this gem..

I have 23 min. left on my Demo...

I have set to screen to optimized (WM) with max vsync, but I am locked at 33FPS.
On as planetary approach it dropped as low as 19...

Suggestions and hints/tips?

Only option left might be try one of the full screen modes, which sometimes perform better on some systems. Switch to the 'Locked (FS) Max Vsync' mode to try it.

@ Vice - Thanx for the reply.....

I tried the FS mode with Max VSync,
Still locked at 33Fps

I do not think it is for a lack of horsepower....

I will re-install the Demo and mess about with it some more....

Cool Game....

Ok, what is your Windows Experience Index for memory performance?. As a side note, there's no need to use more of the demo time for testing this. Just hop into the training mode and ignore the training objectives, you can then spend as much time as you like tuning and tweaking the settings as you test.

I own the game and it's really fun, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is some form of limiter programmed into the game.

My specs are way higher than yours and we are getting the same results. I did some unofficial samples while playing multiplayer and far older systems were avg'ing the same as my rig. Word of advice, disregard the FPS and enjoy the game.

@ thetiebers & Ohsirus
Thanx for the responses...
I am checking this out, but am likely to buy....

@ Vice

My Windows Experience for everything EXCEPT HDD is 7.2 - 7.4 (HDD @ 5.9, SSD sometime soon)

Will wrestle with it some more.
What FPS are you getting? I am using FRAPS to measure this...

Thanx for your time...

I used to have the 33FPS limit, but, I tweaked something in the game, can't remember what (old age), and now my FPS is away up. There is a choice, somewhere, to take the FPS limit off.

I think that applies if your graphics card has a FPS limiter.
Mine does not and my frame rate is also relatively around 33FPS.....;):P

i875k running at 4ghz, ddr3 O'Cd to 1600, and a GTX480. Only 33FPS even on modest settings, I doubt I have a bottleneck. None of the benchmark programs I've ran point to one. There is some frame limiter in the engine. I looked at some older posts from others who have said the same. I was looking for a n older build of the game, thinking maybe something changed in one of the later builds.

One possibility is that your graphics card is not running at full clocks when the game is running. Legends seems to not tell graphics cards to run in 3D mode with high clocks and can sometimes cause graphics cards to continue running in 2D mode with reduced clocks. I have to manually set my graphic card's clocks before starting the game.
What are your in-game settings? I can hit 40+ if I drop to 16-bit. The 3D mode is something I will investigate when I get home. If you hit steady 60 then you seem to be in the minority, I haven't seen anyone in MP come close. We all hover in the 33ish range.

The Romulan also is pulling FPS in the high 50's, but then the Romulans use "alien" equipment.:)

Ding! Ding ! Think you might be on to something. While on lunchbreak I ran some tests and loaded up the ole GPU monitors.

**Video Card EVGA OC GTX 480 (driver 258.96) (Win7 64)

*2D/Desktop
GPU Processor=810MHZ
Memory Clock=324MHZ
Graphics Clock=405MHZ
GPU Usage=0%
GPU FB Usage=6%

*3Denabled
GPU Processor=1451MHZ
Memory Clock= 1900MHZ
Graphics Clock=725MHZ
GPU Usage=50+Various%
GPU FB Usage=25+Various%

*Evochron Legends
GPU Processor=810MHZ
Memory Clock=324MHZ
Graphics Clock=405MHZ
GPU Usage=6%
GPU FB Usage=15%

**Video Card Nvidia 8700M GT (driver 182.46) (Win7 32)

*2D/Desktop
GPU Core 3D=168MHZ
GPU Memory=100MHZ

*Evochron Legends
GPU Core 3d=625MHZ
GPU Memory=702MHZ

It appears that Evochron Legends doesn't trigger 3D mode in newer video cards or maybe drivers. Wish I had more time for testing, but I plan to load up the orignal GTX480 drivers and see if that's the issue.

I posted about the clock issue quite some time ago, and at that time recommended using overclocking programs such as EVGA's Precision and MSI's Afterburner.
Adjust clocks before starting the game (Precision might use profiles, not certain), reset to normal clocks upon game exit.

Mercenary does not suffer from this issue.
I was playing with Precision tune, trying to bump it up for EL, but couldn't get it to stick. Going to try some more later. I'm determined to hit 100 fps. Also explains why I was unable to get 3DVision to trigger.

Well, Afterburner and Precision Tune disagree, I set the 2D speed to match the 3D clock speeds and once EL grabs the screen, all clocks throtthe down. :( Guess it's a wrap.

The clock issue might need a sticky to prevent future why is my fps so low questions.

Well, probably Vice can have a fix for this without the need for an external program.

No everyone is so tech savvy not to fry his GPU while overcloacking.

Loaded up Orignal 197.41 drivers and no change in performance.

Was able to hit 80FPS flying via rear view camera and holding down the O/C GPU hotkey. Disabling the 3D cockpit gave a good 20+ fps also.
