installed but won\'t load -black screen then crashes

hi need some help!

Game: EVOCHRON LEGENDS ~ latest version: 1.288
Hardware: Alienware M17x-R2
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 820
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 1GB RAM v.8.692.2.0
4gb RAM

OS: WIN 7 x64

Installed successfully but when trying to run for the first time all i get is a blank screen and then the program crashes to 'EvochronLegends.EXE has stopped working' window where 'windows is checking for a solotion to the problem...'

It hasn't yet succesfully ran.

tried the 32bit setting and the setup.ini download to game folder suggestion @(http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4475

disabled antivirus suggestion @ (http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3258

tried running the laptop in 800x600 mode first before launching game and still have the same crash.

Still no success. I'd like to play the game if i could get it to work.

update: the same crash happens with

Evochron Renegades version 1.988(b)

I think there is a problem with the Alienware...I believe Vice mentioned something in a nother thread with some one else having the same problem with Alienware....

I guess Vice will have to help you on this one.......

I've been able to pin down where the problem occurs on certain Alienware systems. For whatever reason, these particular laptops and desktops (and perhaps a few others) can fail to return needed data regarding connected control devices, resulting in the hault. I haven't yet determined exactly what data is lacking, invalid, or incompatible, but I have been able to develop a work-around by simply bypassing the initial automatic control detection system in the game. The game seems to launch and run fine after the detection system is disabled. If you would like to download the patched EXE, use the link below:

Then to install it, replace the old EXE in the game's install folder with the one in the ZIP above. Launch the game as normal using the desktop icon. Be sure to keep the original installer handy in case you want to return to the previous build.

Hello, new here. Downloaded Evochron the other day and I'm having a similar issue. I don't have an Alienware system, but it's an i5 750 on 64-bit Windows 7 with an ATi HD5770 and 4GB RAM. I tried the new exe and unplugging my joystick but it won't start. Annoying as it runs on my work laptop which is really slow otherwise.

Did you also try to run the game as administrator? Did you check to make sure your desktop is set to 32-bit color depth? Did you try the setup file in this thread:

No, yes, and yes... Got it up and running, but I get a CTD with "Error a8" now instead when I try to run the tutorial. When I go to "Launch" it works but I have no sound...

Where did you download the game? Did you install the game to the default folder? That's a corrupt file error.

As for the sound issue, it could indicate the configuration file could not be saved. If you complete the steps here, I can analyze your configuration for possible causes:
