Hi, I just downloaded the evochron legends demo and when I went to boot up the game I ran into an error reading
error 164 could not set a display mode of 640x480x16
and was promptly kicked out of the game. I'm running windows vista 32 bit, 2 gigs of RAM and around 20 GB of free space. Any help would be great, this game looks rather enjoyable
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the error occurs every time I start the game.
Error 164 means the game could not initialize any needed display mode down to 640X480X16, so the most important aspect to check is your 3D display. What is the make, model, and memory capacity of your 3D video card? Also, what driver version are you using. If the 3D card has a hardware feature set that is compatible with the game, then often a driver update solves the problem.
Then, again, if you're having trouble setting desktop resolution, you will almost certainly bork your computer if you try to update the graphics driver (this I know from experience ... many, many years ago). Nonetheless, if you do decide to take the plunge, get the updated driver from the website hosted by the company that makes your graphics card. And, before beginning the install, read (and understand) all the instructions carefully. Then copy them down on paper ... because you might not have easy access to your monitor screen while updating.
And don't listen to anyone who tells you it's an easy thing to do. But do listen to any advice they might give you about which updated driver to use.
