Updated version of the manta frame

Post by Nigel_Strange »

Strange Industries has been at it again, putting together a new military frame that blends aeronautics and astronautics, and maybe aesthetics.

The frame can replace any of the Evochron Legends military frames.

At some point I'll have to work out how to get the textures to map properly to the model.

Reminds me of a German Horton fighter only with a tail. I like it very much.

I'm glad you like the frame.

I don't know where else you saw 'manta.' The manta ray is a marine animal that is related to sharks.

I'll produce more as I get inspired. I haven't had much luck with texturizing it, though. I tried it in LithUnwrap only to find that the same area of the texture is used in all different parts of the model. For instance, the same area of the texture that is used for the cockpit is also used for a huge part of the left wing.

There must be some way to make the texture fit better.

Mantas are related to sharks?! Really?

Nice frame! Very sleek and manta-ish.

I updated the manta frame. The shape is the same, but I got the UV projection better, so the texture lines are straighter and more normal looking.

The cockpit area is still not quite where I wanted it, but I don't know how to make it line up exactly right. Anyone have any ideas?

Anyway, you can get the newer one here:

Hey, Eclipse: that looks perfect! Thanks! How did you do the UV shift? I need instruction, like what program you used, etc.

I couldn't even see how it would look because I don't think the texture that is applied ingame is available to test with (maybe it is and I never saw it).

Anyway, I discovered that the first issue was because Truespace was applying a default UV map. Since I created it out of a cylinder, the mapping was flawed. I applied a planar map, and that worked fine. I tried shifting it, but all it ended up doing was rotating it, and I couldn't find anything in the Help about shifting the UV.

I've tried playing with Metaseq, as well, but with less than encouraging results.

Ah, well, I don't think I have AC3D, so I'll have to find some other way. Thanks for sharing the method, though. I'm sure there must be a way to make other programs do this.
