I want to replace the original low-res textures of the ingame planets, but the customization kit lacks of informations about the directories and the files to replace (apart from the icons-planets image with the various planet textures)
So... what is the directory for the planet textures ?
I tried putting the new files in environments, but doesn't work.

Planet Textures - How to mod them ?
With planet textures, you don't need to worry about alpha channels since they aren't DDS. To test replacement textures, backup your current universe data file so you can keep it for later, then edit the 'PlanetText=' line in the code block for the planet you want to change the texture on. Replace the number with the name of the file and the path to it. Format can be either jpg or bmp.
