[EL] Runtime Error - All

Post by Mystical »

Hello

Very new to the game and havn't got a round to any of the playing yet. I purchased the game from Gamers Gate eariler today and have had no joy whatsoever getting it to work. Installation went fine but the moment I load it up i get either runtime error 31, 37 or 99. Sometimes i can get all the way to the menu but when I try to load training or the launch button during the loading process it crashes to white screen and comes up with the runtime error box.

I uninstalled my anti virus software and got avast as recommended and still no luck.

Please help, the game looks great!

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Added more descriptive subject title.

Appreciate the swift reply.

I read and utilised this thread pre-posting. I have ample memory, disk space and background programs are minimal. I am really not quite sure what else to do.

Please post your specs of your computer here, and running background softwares as well.

Your screen's color quality is working as 32 bit right?

Indeed, the easiest thing is to:

* Check minimum system requirements, to make sure your system meets all of the minimum values.
* Check for any background processes that might be using your resources, or blocking the game from using resources (certain OEM software, antivirus, firewall).
* Shut down the non-vital processes that are running one by one (you cannot damage your computer this way, Windows won't allow you to shutdown vital processes) and check every now and then whether the game now works.

If nothing helps,
* Go to start, run and run "msinfo32". Click File -> Export and send the resulting file to the Vice's e-mail address, found on the contact page of the main website. Explain your problem in the e-mail and provide an informative subject, just to be nice to the guy.

Good luck, hope to see you fly soon :).

Hi Mystical, Welcome to the Game and Forum. Make sure you run it in 32 bit color depth and not 16 bit!;)

Any luck yet?

Sorry my reply has been so delayed. I appreciate the amount of support being offered but alas the same problems are happening and i am yet to get past the loading screens without a runtime error.

What information should I post, i'm a bit of a noob with all this.

Thanks in advance for your help

The details Rami points out a above would be good, particularly your system specs. Or if you'd like me to take a look at your system for possible causes, follow the steps here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegends/faq.htm#8

Ok, the solution should be simple. You're running the HP TouchSmart software, which is known to crash games (many games in general) intermittently. Specifically, it is the clmlsvc.exe process referred to in this post: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3258 In addition to chewing up a lot of your system's memory (only about half of the 2 GB your system has is available to programs), the TS software will also block resources games need to load media and perform various tasks. This is also the likely reason your system has been having so many app faults and crashes in general. Unless you have some strict dependency on this software, removing it will likely solve this problem and allow your system to be far more stable overall. If you decide to uninstall it, verify the clmlsvc.exe service is not listed in the task manager after a fresh reboot, then restart the game to test.

If any other problems occur, also update your video card's drivers:

- Listed version is from Nov. 2007 and for Vista, that's pretty old. You can update to the 186 driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvi ... _whql.html

- After updating, make sure your desktop is set to 32-bit color depth. To do this, right click on a blank area of your desktop, then left click on Personalize, then click on Display Settings, then use the drop down menu under Colors.
