Joystick Troubles

Post by DinkyDogg »

Hello all,

Ive recently bought legends and played in solo to just get the general feel of things before coming to Multiplayer. I've browsed the forums and from what i hear, this is one awesome tight community, and the creator actually talking to people? thats a rare sight ;).

yesterday i recently downloaded the Update so i can play online, and ever since then, my ship has begun to "list", like the joystick is slightly off centre.:(

I've tried everything i can think of, updating drivers, re-calibrating, unplugging re pluggin and reinstalling, but it still "lists".

I have the new HAWX game and my joystick works fine in that, so it must have something to do with a confliction with the new build. If anyone can offer assisstance, i would appreciate it greatly, as i really want to get into multiplayer, it sounds aweome :)

Joystick Troubles

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The newer builds of the game use a much more sensitive control system that will react to non-centered inputs far more. Most likely, the device you're using is not returning a perfectly centered signal, fairly common for sticks that use potentiometers. The easiest solution is to go into the Options menu and click on Joystick Deadzone until it reads 1 or 2. This usually resolves issues with sticks that are a little lose with their center tolerances. If it still drifts a bit, increase it to 3 or 4. Rarely do you need to use the 5 setting.

By default, Hawx has a monster default deadzone (requires nearly a 40-50% range of movement on my X52 before it even starts to respond), which is why you probably never ran into it with that game.

I have a slight problem too with my logitech precision pro stick.

It is a came port one (old model) and I cannot get the game to detect the movement of the hat while configuring the controls for the vectorial thrusting (moving up down and laterally).

How should I proceed in this regard?
Best regards

Does the Joystick have a profiler for custumizing profiles?
If so, can you assign axis to the hat button?

To make this work you have to some how switch the hat button to axis mode!;)

Does the device return a HAT signal in the Windows game controller menu? If not, you may be using a default device driver for it that just doesn't support the HAT. You may need to find specific drivers for that device that allows the HAT to operate like it should. What's the exact model of that unit?

The profiler don't work on XP.... old piece of software.

Drivers are update and the hat works properly in all 8 directions under the windows configuration tool.

I see that moving the hat also move an axis in the EL configuration menù, but it is a point movement along the line, not a progressive one. This is wy I have not tried it... I fear I'll mess up my controls.

The hatmovement is not detected in the control configuration. The buttons are, but not the HAT.
Best regards

Wow, must be a really old device to return an axis channel for HAT rather than normal angle signals. What's the make and model?

I't a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro. Serial game port connection.

It's not a Logitech, sorry for the error before.

It's serving me very well since long time and I'm not even thinking of changing it.
Sensor if optical and rudder one (turning the stick) is IR. Has throttle control and 9 buttons.

Here you are a picture on the web to show it:

In the main Options menu is where you define the HAT task, not in the controls screen where buttons/axes are defined.
Thanks for the head up. Didn't noticed it.... will try and report back here.

Working like a charm now, just selected the second option for the HAT as strafe.

I activated it but didn't checked if there was any other option or setting.... my bad.

Thanks again mate. :)
