I'd recommend to not use the old launcher anymore, honestly. There's a new version that's almost complete, I think.

I didn't use the ZIP file, I used the universe.txt file that shewter used.

For now, verbosity needs someone to download the above ZIP file, extract it, connect to the dynamic server and check the specified location. I can't do it, but it would really aid his progress!

I get the same error shewter did: Universe data did not match host.

Also noticed the file structure is not right. The universe file extracts to the ships folder.

Just tried the zip file again, no go. file doesnt match.

Yeah, I downloaded the above ZIP file and copied the contents to my EL folder. I then copied the universe file from inside the Ships folder and put it in the root folder, overwriting the old universe file.

oh thanks, I think I've done something wrong ( again) I'll try again tomorrow...

Thanks for sticking with it, while it's frustrating it's the last major test that needs resolved, once its done its really only the beginnings of the story elements before the beta ends...........

ahh I've pinned down the issue ( and sorted a couple of others out).

universe.zip

This file should work and allow you to connect, there is a custom object at:
S 2,0,0 - 0,0,0

It's hard to see but the main point is that its there ( which it will be if the universe loads and you can join the server)

the server will be up in the next few minutes..........

Just to reiterate, once this test is done the system will be pretty much fully tested, I'll be pulling everything together and implementing a .zip based system for players to use until the launcher is ready. I hope to have the final beta running for a week before announcing the launch :)

While I've been kinda quiet beyond trying the occasional test, I've been hard at work developing some stuff.

Factions and clans
Don't expect reputation to work the same way as in SP. All pilots will be expected to be part of a faction, this will determine your base reputations in systems, and pilot actions ( mainly pvp and certain contracts ) will adjust the rep for you and your faction in that area. Pilots in clan gain a rep bonus in scoring though clan rep is counted instead of individual rep.

Quests and storylines
provide opportunities for additional clan/faction objects ( new stations / carriers etc), new objects include communication arrays which will provide intel on enemy actions. there will be storylines that are global and some that are for factions,clans or even indivdual pilots. Some of these may effect the universe in unexpected ways.

universe
While the universe will be based on the current 'standard universe, certain factions will have unique abilities, and their own safe havens, certain events will cause differenies in the universe as time progresses. Warzones will develop / move as time goes on dependant on player actions - if no-one fights in an area ( IE does contracts / in some cases pvp ), then the warzone will move 'closer' lots of action will move it further out. This gives the chance for large areas of charted space to fall into Vonari hands!!!!!

mod manager
As part of the new launcher Players will be able to choose ship / cockpit mods which will be installed with the launcher.

pilot tags
the return! once again show off your ship/rep/cash/ pvp ranking with server generated pilot tags.

I tried it out, and everything worked. I was able to join, and I found the secret object. When I got close to the object, it gave me a message. I couldn't get too close to it because it used the collision detection of a normal-sized beacon, but it was there.

I'll be announcing the full universe within the next day or 2 , registration and use of the login system will be required at that point, though I'll post details when that happens

I can understand how it takes some people years to finish games,

The server will be running in a few short minutes. until roughly this time tomorrow ( first scheduled universe update) it'll be running the standard universe.

I'll announce the web-launcher when it becomes active ( either later this evening or early tomorrow), Since I changed the login system for increased security you might need to register again.

Really? That makes me feel better, because I have a game bought in 2002 that I have not and don't seem able to, finish!
It is a "scripted" space-sim, but I just can't seem to get past level 9. It is a tough game and I have not been able to find any "walkthru's" for it on the 'net.
I may never finish it, but I give it another go every once in awhile. Great game, btw.

oh I've got loads of games like that!

There is still a bit on teenage mutant ninja turtles for the NES I can't get past ( circa 20 years later).

Just as a note, if you are a pilot in a clan you'll need to let me know, there is a player based clan submission system, but it only works if there is a clan admin in place for each clan.
Clan admins ( generally this will be the clan leader, though any suitable clan member who wishes to do the job may be allowed to do it :) ), have the ability to move / place clan carriers/stations, and choose active storylines / quest arc's ( which have unique benefits).



Just a little information about factions:
clan/guild
Militant forces at the edge of space, Clan aligned pilots/clans start with Sapphire and Thuban as hostile, but with some outlying systems with a better reputation, and unique abilities in regards to certain jump gates. Exploration bonus'. Few story / quest arc's high rewards

Alliance
Sapphire friendly, Thuban Hostile. Alliance forces control several 'inner' Sectors, Are considered to have the majority of martial forces. More choice of story/quest arc's, lower completion rewards

Federation
Thuban Friendly, Sapphire Hostile. Federation forces control several systems in the southern 'region' of Evochron, medium story choice/rewards, 'guerilla tactics' - bonus to war zone scores.

I'm thinking of putting this project 'on hold' for the moment.

Firstly I don't have a whole lot of time of late, and I'm behind on other projects which in theory might actually pay me at some point in the future, Secondly I Don't spend as much time at home to keep an eye on the server. Lastly there has been the stalling in the development of the launcher ( again only really myself to blame).

Since the code is pretty much finished I will take the time to create a release of the code for anyone who might be interested, or just want a look at some point in the future, though this will be after I come back from my course ( circa 2 weeks from now).
