Rules:

- Entries should be started and ended within the time frame of the competition to be considered for judging (but it's OKAY if you start thinking/prototyping a bit earlier).

- Using pre-existing game engines is OKAY.

- Entries must be made for the competition only (but you can do whatever you wish with them once they're finished).

- Collaborations are allowed and, in fact, are welcomed.

- As usual, you should start a thread to track the development of your game! Please put your thread in the Cockpit Compo subforum.

- You may submit more than one game.

- Submit your game by declaring "FINISHED" on your game's thread. Include the download link to the latest version of the game somewhere where I can find it.

I think Daedalao is right.

It is a site for indie developers, so I guess they want an newly created indie game behind the idea.. not just skinning/modding something like EL. Still.. I saw the competition and instantly thought of warsign.. sorry to get your hopes up War.. :(

Everybody talk about Raptor cockpit.

Spelk did very nice hud replacement for it.

We have to find a screenshot... Please cockpit monsters, help :)
Still didn't find a good one.

Viper's is pretty good. Raptor is better?
I will start modelling, We have to choose "the best" quickly.

Warmonger, I believe you can use an existing game engine, but I don't think that you can use the existing mechanics? I may have been wrong... oh well :)

Nice dog fight but I didn't see clean view of the cockpit.

I think the only appropriate place for me should be in a well armored, self contained gel tank at the heart of the ship, in an emergency, when bits of the hull get breached or the gravity drive fails in any strong maneuvering that would otherwise leave you Pate :P, not to mention any number of radiation or light based weapons that would cook you in your seat through the windows (by their very nature transparent to light waves)... A dozen or so camera clusters for massive redundancy should cover it and have the information piped direct to my brain. Therefore all I would want to see is an optimized 360 view, with zoom and a feature rich but compact HUD. Being wired in to a ship has so many advantages that it seems silly not to, imagine how useful it would be to see in all spectrums of radiation? To have your vision zoom 5000X and enhanced as you think what you'd like to look at in more detail. Perhaps targeting options that select and query according to your will? IMHO the glass fronted cockpit is a very "terrestrial" concept that won't last past a century of space exploration or maybe as little as 1 battle. ;)

I tottaly forgot about Space Above and Beyond the name of the TV show. I loved this TV show watched every episode been a long time hearing something about it again real shame it got cancelled Thanks for bringing back some great memmories!:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

Heh, I was trying to put into context the kind of technology shift that would have happened for the Evochron humans. It is IMHO entirely likely that this kind of tech will be the way of the future - even EL incorporates an element of it with the head movement, trying to do more than the joystick by tapping into millions of years of instinct.

Here's a thought. Say the outer shell is Radius 20 and the inner booth or cubby is 5 you could create a full 3d image of the surrounding area using fiber optic cable. push it through the maths and you have a cable emerging from the outer shell every 16 squares. That leaves plenty of room for all the plumbing (smartcore, generators even missile ports and lasers). Perhaps you'd be blind where you engines sat but the optics could bend round most stuff like a cargo bay.

My concerns would be getting some kind of optical cutout that would prevent becoming prawn toast in your chair from photon weapons, but there's plenty of room to attach reactive photo electrics, in turn giving you a boost to system power to be rerouted to shields for example.
facilities is the second BUT a gravity chair and a failsafe that pumped the room with GEL if/when that failed, should cover it for a one man ship. Bodily stuff can be easily dealt with by the ship as well as regular "assisted" exercise from the gravity chair. Hygene of the body ties in with the regular cleaning of the optical ends - everything has to be waterproof because of the gel anyway.

And you can still walk planetside because you've got the body of Adonis from the chair exercises!!!

At last!

They still don't work well because of their dynamic display!
Some cockpits have stipes while playing.

But good news! I hope they understood the value of the cockpit for all ships !!! It is part of the game design :)

OK, thanks. I would like that cool Tie Fighter engine sound too. Can you do that also? ;)

The first day I bought EL, just 2 days ago, I downloaded all of your cockpits. No instructions though so had to come back here to find out how to make them function. The first one I tried stopped the game from running because it was missing a cockpit lightmap file or something like that. Got it sorted now and am using one of your pits. It's much better than the stock cockpit.

I like cluttered cockpits for slow ships like freighters (possible to switch cockpits depending on used frame?). You are getting so annoyed when only a bit of the action outside is visible. My all time favorit is the one of the Wing Commander Privateers first ship. One MFD, one display for shields/hull and one for Radar (Screenshot from Privateer remake):
