Is there a way to disable the timer on distress call missions?

Post by StarForce1 »

i would like to answer distress calls as my main form of gameplay, but i dont like the timers. Is there a way to disable or greatly lengthen the time i have to answer distress calls?

The distress system is a great way to get into the game, but the timer makes me feel rushed. I would like the time to get supllies, plan my route and deliver food to starving planet!

There is a button on your map to disable it.

Welcome btw.

The time has been extended in this latest update to the game. Some of the times have been doubled from previous versions. But you still must respond before the expiration of the timer.

so there is no way to mod it?

Honestly, i'd prefer if i had 10- 30 minutes for some missions. Or even no time limit at all.

thx for the help

I would prefer to be able to do these missions at a more leisurely pace.

Is there a way i can mod the amount of time i have to answer distress calls?
I would like to make them at least 1/2 hr or more.

This Was posted in the new pilots board, but i'm hoping the modders here can help me.

Nope! ;)

Vice is in the process of tweaking the times so that it isn't so frantic though.

If you have a ship with five cargo bays you can preload them with the materials you need to do any of the missions - that makes them much more relalistic in the time period.

maybe not so hard to code if player choose the length from start panel, with an unlimited one till the shortest possible :)

I guess thats a work around. I would kind of like the role play behind buying goods, charting a course and answering the distress call. Ive never completed one with the short time i have with the game.

Hey StarForce1! Welcome aboard! :cool::cool:

Practice, practice, practice! Is way to get to Carnegie Hall! And, to start to complete some of the distress call missions. As you work at it, and become more familiar with the territory, they'll become a little more speedy to complete. The cargo bay pre-load idea is a good one. Me ? I just dash around like a chicken with it's head cut off, trying to find those elusive food units. Or, make planetfall to load up on aitch-too-oh; then make orbit and boost in time to hit all the right jump gates to target system. Being able to decipher the distress calls' coordinates and apply them to the known quadrant map on the fly, is a handy skill which comes with time-in-the-saddle.

Now, if you should tire of the incessant distress call soundings, you may mute the distress call itself. [Basically, this option 'turns it off'.] Open up the F-1 NavCon. Lower right corner of the NavCon is a stack of toggles, bottom one should be distress call-relational. Toggle thru the DC button commands for the one most fitting your needs. IIRC, one toggle is 'mute all'. :)

With the latest version of the game, you can usually reply to most any distress call if it's within three or four gated systems ... even if, before reaching the city in distress, you need to tractor in the needed water or oxygen (for all other items, it's best to carry them with you ... either that or trust to luck in finding what you need at the first few trade stations). Anything beyond the three or four star systems ... well, realistically, that would be kind of like responding to a famine half way 'round the world ... by sailing ship.

One thing with the DC is that all pilots i MP
get the same message. Only ONE gets paid
for it, the first to complete it.

So, it's actually a race as well.

I remember when we Beta tested it and Vice
was participating as well.
We both had the requested items and arrived
in the destination system at the same time with
little time left on the countdown.
I had him (Vice) in my gunsights and struggled to
either try to kill him (how hard can it be lol), or do
a high speed planetfall and beat him that way.

I went for the planetfall and got there first laughing,
only to find out that I touched down on the wrong
planet ROFLMAO. Good fun indeed.

 Does that mean Vice was also responding to a distress call at the wrong planet? (Ho, ho, ho!) ;)

No, he made it since he landed on another planet! ;-)

I didn't pay enough attention when reading the message.

i love the DCs. i dont want to turn them off at all. I hope it gets expanded on. I havent been able to complete one yet, but i think i would like them as a major part of my gameplay. i likr the idea of role-playing a a DC responder.

We emerged through the gate at the same time, me slightly behind him.
Once I went for the planet I didn't see him since
I was ahead, winning I thought.

 Ah, now it all makes perfect sense. I think it was Ben Franklin who once said, "Haste makes waste."
