RE: Maelstrom’s Pilot Log: 7/26/14

14:00 hrs

I entered the Olympus Prime FR Galaxy (server) to begin daily mining operations in the Cerulean System as ordered. It had been a few days since I was last in the OP as I opted to complete some contracts in my home galaxy (single player) to avoid dimensional drifting (disconnection) causing me to lose valuable materials and progress with the current mission you have me on.

I made contact with several other pilots in the OP which was a nice surprise compared to the last several times when it has been completely void other than the AI pilots. Most of these User pilots were from a clan known as the United Evoverse Fighters (UEF), but I know very little about them as I may have to research the Galactic Forums for more information. I am assuming you will want to know if they pose a threat to our operations in this sector of the galaxy, but I have a good feeling they may be helpful.

We still have not received word regarding the disappearance LadyBird somewhere in the Ceti Alpha V Galaxy. She was conducting a survey missions in the Aries Star System when we lost contact. It is believed that she may have ended up in the OP and may still be in the same system, just in a different galaxy. I am requesting that after my work is completed that I be allowed to search for her, as she is my sister and I have a strong feeling she is still alive somewhere out there.

The new crew member, Professor Valenti D. Weston, which you assigned to me has reported for duty. We will begin to extract platinum from the asteroid belt located -50k/0k/-40k and deliver to Star Port 27 in the Cerulean Star System as ordered. A very good choice for a crew member as Prof. Weston is an expert at identifying and extracting specific minerals so it should eliminate sorting and jettisoning the unusable, saving us a lot of time.

15:00 hrs
We encountered many hostile ships in the area between Star Port 27 and the asteroid belt and hid behind one while mining to avoid detection and attack. Even though the ship has the most top of the line weapons currently available, the shield generator is severely lacking due to the extra space needed for cargo. We will need to avoid engaging any hostile ships and stay on alert while extracting the platinum, but with the Professor on board helping out I won't have much trouble avoiding detection with my attention completely focused on monitoring the radar.

16:00 hrs.
4 hostile ships closed in on our position behind an asteroid and opened fire. We took minor damage and being out gunned and out numbered we bugged out back to the station with the cargo we had, short 53 units. The plan will be to hang back at the station till the Cerulean Navy can drive them out of the area as it seems that there are some rebel forces causing problems for trade in the system.

18:00 hrs.
We resumed operations about an hour ago and managed to deliver our third pay load of the day totaling 375 units of platinum and also made contact with another UEF pilot by the call sign of Iron Man. So far my encounters with the UEF have been nothing but peaceful and he even passed along information about the booming economy in the Atlas Star System. It seems the authorities in that system maybe more in control meaning less of a threat of attack or piracy. We may want to consider scouting the area for future operations.

Also...
We took some damage in an attack while exiting Star Port 27 as a missile knocked out our rear shields while we were trying to make our way back to the asteroid field after delivering our 8th payload of platinum. We did arrive back at the designated mining area safely and resumed our duties. Fortunately, we only have two more trips to make before completing for the day, but may I suggest that in the future you assign an escort for ops in conflicted territories.

1900 hrs.
We finally finished for the day as we managed to pull in 2500 units of platinum meeting our quota. As I make my final report to you now I find myself distracted with worry for my sister, Ladybird, who (as you know) was lost in the Aries Star System. The Professor has a connection who may have information about that region of space but it will require waiting till tomorrow when he can send out a request for a meeting. I am pleading that you allow me the chance to search for her even if only for a couple of days. I know whatever your goals are that they are of the utmost importance in preserving the Evoverse even though you have yet to make it clear exactly what that is. I took this leap of faith with total belief that you know what you are doing without questioning your motives, but now I must ask you this favor. I will pay for all expenses and work for free to cover losses during my absence.

Thank you and I look forward to your response,

Maelstrom

RE: Maelstrom's Pilot Log: 7/27/14

13:00 hrs
We received your message, badly garbled, but the professor and I were able to clean some parts of it up. All communications coming from you on this channel seems to be compromised so we will use "piggyback" protocol. Encoded in this message you will find the information necessary to enact the protocol and to use my comm frequency to communicate.

Our plan for today will be to stay put at Star Port 27 until we receive further orders. In the meantime, the Professor has sent a message to his contact regarding the Aries Star System and the disappearance of LadyBird. Even though when we cleaned up your message you did clearly state that I am not to search for her, with the down time we have today I've decided to at least gain some information that may prove useful if we decide on any future ops in that system.

Your objective today will be to mine 2500 diamond units from the asteroid belt in the Cerulean Star System at coordinates -50/0/-40 and deliver to Star Port 27.

LadyBird has been declared Deceased: Lost in Space as of today. You have my condolences regarding the loss of your sister. Please do not pursue this any further or make any attempt to enter the Aries Star System.

You will also increase Professor Valenti D. Weston's pay rate by 100 credits, bringing his cycle total to 2360cr.

I am personally looking into the Atlas Star System per the information we received from the UEF, but prepare yourself to potentially scout the area in the near future. For now our operations mandate that we remain in the Cerulean System until further notice.

You may also begin researching each clan residing in the OP. A full report including history, disposition, members and clan interactions are expected by the end of the week.

Thank you for your service. The future of the Evoverse depends on your efforts.

Message received and we are beginning our mining objective for the day: 2500 units of diamonds from the asteroid belt located at -50/0/-40.

I have increased the professor's pay as ordered and he passes along his gratitude and pledges his complete loyalty to the cause.

My sister LadyBird may have been lost in space but she is not dead and I refuse to except it. For now I will comply with your orders but I will also continue to try and obtain information anyway I can in order to ascertain her whereabouts. I'm sorry if you disagree with my actions regarding this issue, but this is my sister we are talking about. She would not give up on me so easily and as a great supporter of your mysterious cause, I am surprised you would give up on her as well.

15:00 hrs
We were attacked while on our forth run of the day by rebel forces that took up a position around the Cerulean Construct base at the center of the asteroid field. The ship took minor damage from a missile attack, but we managed to jump to safety and dock at Star Port 27. The Cerulean Navy has issued a warning to all vessels that they will be forcibly removing the rebels and to stay clear of the area around the Construct and asteroid field. Our ops will be suspended at the moment as we await word when it will be safe to return to our DMA (designated mining area).

19:00 hrs.
Finally got word that the rebel ships attacking cargo and transport vessels has finally been driven back, making it safe to resume our work mining the asteroid field. The Cerulean Navy has the system on alert as the threat of rebel raiding parties are still present.

20:00 hrs.
Once we arrived at our DMA and started mining ops we were surprised to find a few rebel ships still in the area. We began evasive maneuvers to get into position for a jump but this time we were caught off guard when our retreat was cut short forcing us to move deeper into the asteroid field. We positioned the ship so it was sitting pretty much right on top of an asteroid, but that trick worked for only so long as they began destroying them one by one in an attempt to find us. I knew if they hit the right asteroid we would be sitting ducks and vulnerable to missile attack and not to mention we would take serious damage from the debris. So I set my heading directly for the smallest of the group of hostiles and using the fact that we could see them on radar, but they could not see us sitting on top of the rock, I was able to get a missile lock without being detected. I opened fired with the primary weapons as we appeared from our hiding spot and when I caught their attention I let loose a couple of missiles and destroyed the hostile ship. I used that moment to kick the thrusters into high gear to make our getaway before the other not-so-small ships could react. We made it into a position where we could jump safely back to the station and once there we saw that the Navy was once again mobilizing for another patrol run. Since we have yet to complete our objective we will continue to wait here at Star Port 27 until further notice from the Cerulean Navy that it is safe.

21:00 hrs.
Traffic in the system was reopened and we delivered our last several payloads without incident. Total amount delivered to the station was 2500 units of diamonds meeting our quota for the day. Both the Professor and I will be staying at Star Port 27 till the morning as we await further instructions.

ATTN: Maelstrom
FROM: THE DOCTOR

Good work yesterday obtaining your quota under threatening conditions. Unfortunately our work in the Cerulean System is far from over.

With the rise in hostile rebel activity and the interruptions in our mining ops, you and your ship are being loaned out to the Cerulean Navy as a support vessel and will be assigned to the Cerulean Civil Reserve #27.

You are authorized to use account funds to reconfigure the ship for combat. Also, as a part of the agreement with the Cerulean Navy, they will be assigning you a tactical officer. This person will greet you in the hangar and will only be serving on your ship for the duration of this mission.

Your on-loan status is effective as of today and will conclude when one of the following conditions have been met:
1. The rebel forces are defeated or driven out of the system or you complete your mission with the navy. Report back to me for further instructions.
2. Rebel forces over run the system. Retreat to fall back position ALPHA and report back to me for further instructions.
3. Your ship is destroyed and if you manage to escape, make your way to the nearest planet or star port and contact me for further instructions.
4. In the event of your death the remaining credits owed will be deposited into your family's account on New Hope. Same goes for Professor Weston as well.

I expect a full combat report upon completion.

Good Luck

Orders confirmed. Awaiting contact from the Cerulean Navy for instruction and deployment.

Attached is a message I received late last night but it was coded. The computer was unable to identify the cipher needed to decode it and because the signal was sent via piggyback we could not trace it to its original source. The Professor has conducted several diagnostics on the comm channel we use and it has been verified that we are still securely transmitting. Whoever sent the message cannot receive any response nor do they have any kind of access to read the feeds. Message is real however, as we also determined it not be some random data packets that happened to find their way into my inbox. I suspect it may be another of your agents, possibly in danger, trying to contact us and they managed to hack our protocols in order to send the message. Perhaps you may be able to decipher it...

Begin Combat Log:

1800 hrs.
Professor Weston and I welcomed Tactical Officer Lt. Uriah Henderson aboard and we were briefed on our mission with the Cerulean Navy. We are to meet up with the fleet and prep for engaging the rebel forces. Once the main attack wings engage enemy fighters we will jump ahead to coordinates located at the rear of the rebel fleet. Once in position we will need to identify the rebel command cruiser and scan the ship's cargo hold, although we do not know exactly what it is we are looking for. Once completed, we are to transmit our findings to the Navy and return to Star Port 27. For this mission I have reconfigured the ship for combat and made some upgrades to hull.

After leaving the base and meeting up with the fleet, we hung back while they engaged the rebels who came in force matching the Navy, ship for ship. On a few occasions a rebel fighter would break through the lines and make a run at us, but I managed to avoid any direct combat as navy ships were usually in constant pursuit. We did have several opportunities to at least fire off a few shots but the Lieutenant failed to acquire the target, something I am sure even the Professor could have handled.

The battle raged on for what seemed like over an hour but we received the signal we were waiting for and set our coordinates to jump in behind the rebel command carrier. We jumped the ship and as soon as we arrived at our designated location it was made very clear that we ended up right in the heart of the fight. The Cerulean Navy flag ship was locked in a heated battle with the Rebel command cruiser (picture) as fighters from both sides were gunning it out all around us.

My nerves were frayed as a volley of missiles and gunfire headed our way, threatening to destroy the ship. As I took evasive action to avoid the gunfire while staying in scanning range, I looked over and saw the Lt frozen in place. I immediately took control of his console and started using countermeasures which prevented any of the missiles from locking on.

Once we were within scanning range I needed to keep the ship in position for about 60 seconds for the scan to complete, but that wasn't going to be easy. Rebel fighters swooped in and battered us with gunfire as I diverted all available power to the shields. As the clock counted down and we barely avoided numerous missile attacks, a rebel ship got a little close for comfort, and seeing how I was now in control of tactical, I fired all weapons destroying the enemy. I continued to open fire whenever any enemy ship came into range and over the course of that minute I managed to destroy 4 rebel ships.

Out of missiles and with only 20 seconds to go it seemed like we weren't going to make it. I looked over at the Professor who was busy repairing damaged systems and keeping the engines operational and the Lt who was still frozen in place with fright. It was becoming obvious that this kid had never been in a combat situation before which, to me, was kind of strange seeing he was a tactical officer. Not that I have been in many of these situations myself as I only ever saw this kind of action in the combat simulators at the New Hope University. It seems my education had paid off and even though this was quite real I was able to fall back on my training... but what was going on with this kid? He must have had some kind of tactical training or why would he even be here?

The scan finally completed and I took the ship out of the battle zone as we prepared to transmit our findings. It was at this point that Lt. Henderson came alive and began to look over the readings from the scans. I got a strange feeling something was not right with this guy as he seemed to only be interested in what we recorded as his eyes widened as he viewed the results with anticipation. As we made our retreat I fought off the rebel ships, something the tactical officer should be handling, while I manage to navigate our way back to the line. It suddenly dawned on me that he wasn't really here to help us but rather to verify the findings before they were transmitted. I put the notions of a conspiracy to the side and we made it back to the fleet in one piece, although we had taken a good amount of damage. The scans were transmitted to a waiting unmarked ship and as soon as the information was extracted from our data banks the mysterious ship jumped away. The Cerulean Navy would take the upper hand for the remainder of the battle as most of the rebel fighters were destroyed or badly damaged. The Rebel Command Cruiser managed to escape but something tells me that was what the Navy had intended all along.

The Lt then informed me that our mission was complete and we brought him back to the station where he disembarked. The whole thing was rather strange as he did not say a single word once the op was complete and I dare not ask what it was all about, but I suspect the cargo we scanned was probably some kind of secret weapon.

A few close calls but hopefully rebel activity in this star system will die down with the Navy's victory today.

We are currently holding position at Star Port 27 awaiting your instructions.

Maelstrom's PERSONAL LOG 073014

It has been four days since I found out my sister was declared dead. How I wish I could contact my parents back on New Hope to tell them, but the arrangement I have with the Doctor prevents me from doing that. All they will know is that she will be declared lost in space, probably told she was the victim of a jump with bad coordinates. It actually happens more often than you might think even with backup safety systems. My Mom will be brokenhearted but my Dad will probably question the whole thing to no end. Being a combat pilot in the Navy he understood exactly how good she was in the cockpit and that she would not make that kind of mistake. Hopefully one day I will get to tell them the truth.

The truth is she is not lost or dead. I am positive she is still alive, not the victim of a bad jump. Don't ask how, but I can feel it.

The Professor has yet to hear back from his contact regarding the situation in the Aries Star System but I am hoping that we will find something out... ie reports of vessels destroyed, unknown Jane Doe at some hospital... really anything that may give me the evidence to convince The Doctor to go looking for her. The only problem is finding the time to meet with this individual to obtain the information. If we have to leave the system to go elsewhere to meet him then that could be a problem as The Doctor monitors our movements and has made it clear he doesn't want me to pursue this. I figure I can setup transport for the Professor’s contact to come here and I will even pay him for his time. For now I must be patient.

I wonder if that mysterious message could have somehow been from her... but why would she encrypt it? I mean... she wasn't the sharpest mind at the academy and I don't believe she could even figure how to hack a comm system to send a message let alone an encrypted one...

Don't get me wrong, Gina (Call sign LadyBird) was the best combat pilot and sharp shooter this side of the Ahmiee Nebula and probably the reason why The Doctor recruited her for his secret mission.

What are we doing????

Seriously, first all the crazy training, then all the mining which I am sure we are not finished with... what next? We've jump from one star system to the next, doing whatever he asks without question, all under the guise that what we are doing will somehow save the Evoverse... and why am I buying all of this? He has some kind of strange hold over me and I don't even know what he looks like. I've only ever communicated with him through Gina at first, now through a comm system.

Gina was recruited first and originally recruited me, although I don't know if she knew more about him and his plan. All I knew is that she totally believed in his secret cause and that it would save the Evoverse from destruction. "All will become known soon. Trust me little brother, we are doing a great deed for all life in the Evoverse." She would say to me... I must admit, it has actually been kind of fun not having to be in school anymore.

That's another thing about the Doctor that baffles me... he has all this pull to get us out of the academy, among many other things only top level officials could do like acquiring this ship, the money and materials for these missions, but yet he needs us to do these jobs for him that move towards some unknown greater goal. Why does he need to work covertly and exactly who does he work for? The government? The military? A mad man that can hack the system?

Who is The Doctor?

For now I will continue doing as he asks because I feel I have no other choice... like I am being driven by this vast curiosity about what the end goal is... but if I find out something about my sister Gina... Ladybird... then I may have to force myself to break away and go looking for her if he doesn't allow me to do so.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION 080414

ATTN: Maelstrom
FROM: THE DOCTOR

Good work helping the Cerulean Navy to achieve a victory over the rebels.

However, the Rebel fleet did not send in their main force and were only testing the defensive response of the Cerulean Navy.

My sources believe they are secretly building strength at a staging area most likely located at the edge of the Cerulean Star System. I have intercepted several coded rebel communications and am close to pin pointing coordinates.

Although the rebel threat to the Cerulean Star System holds no impact to our long term plans either way, the information may be useful in the short term and will need to be verified by us, meaning you and your ship, before I can covertly pass it along. After my recent assessment of their strength I have determined that, even with the location of the staging area, the Navy would not be able to preemptively strike due to a lack of manpower and ships. Any additional support and reinforcements from neighboring systems are too far away or dealing with problems of their own, but if they know the enemy is coming then they may be able to recruit some civilian or clan ships to assist in defending the Cerulean Star System.

Until I have a better idea where you should look you will be resuming mining duties at the asteroid field. Your objective will be to extract 2500 units of platinum and deliver them to Star Port 27 for transfer and payment. Please be advised that rebel raiding parties have been active in that area. Use your own discretion on engagement, but remember that extracting the platinum is the priority.

Regarding the encrypted message you received my sources have determined that it is in fact just a garbled data packet that was accidentally sent to your inbox. Please forward all similar messages to me before performing any of your own analysis.

The future of the Evoverse depends on your efforts.

Good Luck.

OUTGOING TRANSMISSION 080414

ATTN: THE DOCTOR
FROM: Maelstrom

Orders confirmed.

The Professor has been able to barter for access to military sensor readings relayed to the Star Port from the Cerulean Construct and for now the DMA seems clear of rebel activity. He figured it would be a good idea to know what conditions we would be working in since after the battle the other day we are probably not on the best of terms with the rebels. Our strategy will be to only engage the enemy if we are at imminent risk of losing our payload, but if attacked we plan to take cover in Cerulean Construct.

Work/Combat Log Begins:

Arrived at the DMA and executed a radar sweep of the area and found no enemy ships. We then began extracting platinum from the asteroid and obtained our quota without incident.

While returning to Star Port 27 to unload our final payload of platinum, we had multiple radar contacts of Rebel Ships making their way toward a Civilian Transport ship on course for the station.

We detected no Cerulean Navy ship in the vicinity and moved in to defend the Transport from attack.

Once the rebel ships were within firing range they split off, one of them targeting us while the other two went after the Transport. After the enemy ship unloaded on us with a barrage of gunfire, we got into position for a counter attack and opened up with all weapons, dealing heavy damage to the fighter causing it to retreat with engine damage.

Soon after the fighting began a Cerulean Navy ship out on patrol jumped into the sector and immediate went to work by attacking the other rebel fighter while it was making another run at the Transport.

With one ship too damaged to keep fighting and the other now under attack from a Navy fighter, the squadron leader began retreating towards the asteroid belt but we stayed with him and destroyed the rebel ship before it could get away.

Upon docking at the station we discovered that several other rebel attacks occurred throughout the system that resulted in the deaths of many merchants, traders and civilians. The rebels have never attacked civilian ships before so this change in strategy could be a sign the attacks were actually coordinated strikes designed to instill terror in the population of the Cerulean Star System.

Rumblings and rumors are saying that a Rebel fleet will strike at the heart of the Navy and launch an attack against Star Port 27 very soon, possibly within days. As soon as you find out the coordinates of where the rebel staging area is we will set out to discover its location and hopefully the Cerulean Navy can organize a defense in time.

Maelstrom's Personal Log: 080414

What I didn't tell The Doctor in my report is that the Transport ship which came under attack from the Rebels was actually the ship carrying the Professor's contact to the station to meet with us. What luck we had to show up just in time to defend it from the attack and that it was a squadron of only three ships. Even better luck is the Cerulean Navy Fighter showing up just in time too. I may give those guys a hard time for having a god complex but that was some of the best shooting I've seen in a while...

Unfortunately the man we were supposed to meet, Dustin Born (a known smuggler and dealer of information), was knocked unconscious during the attack and wasn't going to be able to speak with us for at least a few days. And to make matters worse the Station Guard is watching his recovery room over a legal issue. I've ask Professor Weston to get some more information about the guy’s situation and to see if we can at least talk to him before they do whatever it is they are going to do to him. I need to know if he has any information that may lead me to my sister at whatever the cost...

The fighting with the rebels is long from over and is about to get worse. I'm awaiting a message from The Doctor regarding the coordinates of the rebel staging area. It seems he wants me to get involved in this Cerulean Rebel Conflict after all, but to be honest I would rather make a straight shot towards the Atlas System and pick up our mining activities there. All reports I've seen on the system have determined that it is booming over there with trade and industry leading the way but for now I guess we have to stay in this constant war-zone.

I’m not too knowledgeable of the politics at play here and why these people had chosen to rebel against the Cerulean Government and the Alliance, but after talking with many of the stations occupants and checking databases over the last few weeks I have discovered it's a little more complicated than I first thought.

It seems several years ago the government came under massive change as it transitioned to the Alliance which weakened its defense forces and its ability to protect civilians living in the system from pirate attack. Several factions of privateers popped up and took their own territory, slowly encroaching on the civilian colonies and eventually overrunning them. With no law, the colonies in the Cerulean System suffered from food shortages and disease from lack of medical supplies as the factions constantly seized cargo ships for their own use. As the Alliance began to setup shop in the system, the Cerulean Navy was created to drive out the factions and in little under two years there was once again peace.

However, some of the factions survived and came together under the banner of Devin Icarus, a former council member of the Cerulean System that opposed joining the Alliance.

He saw the opportunity to build a military from the surviving factions while at the same time galvanizing other Ceruleans who also opposed the Alliance. He also went on a propaganda campaign that proclaimed the Alliance was corrupt and only Ceruleans should govern Ceruleans. Being the charismatic leader he is, he managed to convince a lot of people of his philosophies and one year after his proclamation, over one million people marched down the roads of the capital city on Cerulean B in protest of the Alliance "Occupation" of their star system.

Eventually his motives took a darker turn, and it was soon discovered they were personal as he blamed the Alliance for the death of his daughter, who died in an accident while being transported through a defective Alliance Jump Gate to the Onyx Star System over ten years ago. When the Alliance offered membership to the Cerulean Star System he fought it and was very vocal about native rights which the Alliance was known for altering with their universal law. When the riots broke out and the privateers took control during the transition, Devin Icarus gained some clout as the people believed he was right about the Alliance being bad for them and should have headed his warnings.

But then the Alliance wiped out the pirate factions and the majority of the people once again went on with their lives, safe with the Cerulean Navy's protection. Icarus retreated away from the main colonies, rumored to have left the star system to teach at the university on New Hope. It wasn't until he made his proclamation that people finally knew what really happened and that he organized the privateer factions to fight for his cause, but all he wanted was revenge against the Alliance for his daughter's death and now he felt he had the means in which to do so.

No longer content with protesting he began ordering his rebel ships to attack any military vessels or ships working for the military, civilian or merchant as it really didn’t matter. If you supported the Alliance you were considered a collaborator and must be dealt with.

The Cerulean Military stepped up patrols, but the hit and run type of attacks went on for the next year before the first major conflict with the rebel fleet. This was just about six months before I arrived in the system, but I do remember reading about that battle. The Cerulean Navy managed to drive back the rebel fleet but not before losing over a third of their ships in the battle. When I arrived in the system rebel raiding parties were commonplace and it seemed that the Navy was having a tough time patrolling the system even then.

The next major battle between the Cerulean Navy and the Rebel Fleet was only a week ago, as I was actually involved in what appeared to be a covert operation to scan the cargo bay of the rebel flag ship, for whatever reason I don't know. As far as anybody knew, the news service reported that the Navy engaged the Rebel Fleet that was attempting to attack Star Port 27 and was beaten back.

Not sure if the attack against the Transport today has made the news yet, but I'm hoping if it did they got my good side on the footage of me wiping out the rebel commander...

INCOMING TRANSMISSION 080514

ATTN: Maelstrom
FROM: THE DOCTOR

I have found out the coordinates of the rebel staging area and I am transmitting them to you now.

Please proceed to: sX 2397 / sY 0 / sZ 2097

Your mission will be to scout the area and gather Intel on the rebel fleet location and strength. Once completed you will return to Star Port 27 and transmit the data to me. I will then pass it along to the Cerulean Military in hopes than they can provide a good enough defense to fight off the rebels.

You will need to make haste with this mission, but you also must not be detected by any rebel patrols. The attack is projected at less than a week away and if you are discovered it could tempt them to move their plans ahead sooner than expected as well as lead to your own demise.

Good Luck

OUTGOING TRANSMISSION 080514

ATTN: THE DOCTOR

Orders confirmed.

I have checked the station's computers for information relating to those coordinates and found that a Blue Nebula expands through the system and encompasses most of the region. Many years ago a survey team was unable to navigate and take accurate scans once they got close to its perimeter due to a magnetic field distortion. It seems that this distortion field could mask a rebel base without actually hiding it within the nebula, keeping their fleet away from the sheer stresses that would probably rip their ships apart.

Professor Weston has some knowledge and experience navigating through similar magnetic distortions and knows how to augment the shields and sensors which will allow us to safely enter the nebula to avoid rebel detection while getting some basic scans.

Begin Mission Log:

We arrived at Cerulean A (C580) just in time to witness a solar eclipse, which the Professor tells me only occurs once every 127 years in this star system and actually alternates between the planets, meaning that in another 127 years it be Cerulean B that will eclipse the sun.

I scanned the area for rebel patrols and set a course for the nebula. We figured that if the rebels had a base somewhere around the distortion field it was most likely on the far side and away from accidentally contact with a stray cargo vessel.

We entered the nebula and lost most of our sensors, but the augmented shields were keeping us from being torn apart from the magnetic stresses. Since the rebel base would be invisible to most of our scans anyway, we decided to execute a search grid around the perimeter of the nebula hoping to make radar contact.

While we were searching grid beta-3 a bolt of lightning struck, illuminating the nebula and making the base partially visible. Now able to lock the scanners on a set of coordinates we got the scans of the rebel base, collected some rough data about their fleet strength and completed the mission.

We are now holding position back at Star Port 27. Encoded in this message are the exact coordinates of the rebel base and data on their fleet that may indicate how many ships they have.

We await further orders.

Maelstrom: Begin Personal Log 080514

Whenever I have the opportunity to explore a star system, for whatever the reason, it reminds me of why I wanted to become a pilot to begin with. Today I got to see a rare astronomically event in the form of the eclipse and then got to travel within a nebula, something not too many people have done themselves.

When I was younger we never left the Sapphire Star System and only ventured beyond New Hope on very rare occasions. We relied on the stories my father told us when he came home from the Navy, and they always captured my imagination even though he never actually went beyond the Onyx Star System himself.

As soon as I reached the age of maturity I enrolled in the university along with my sister and began training to become pilots ourselves. While Ladybird was interested in becoming a combat pilot, I joined with hopes of being able to see some of the amazing wonders in the Evoverse.

With this conflict starting to hit its peak and after seeing what the rebels have in store, I can now only hope that I live to make it out of the system. I must have counted at least 6 squadrons of rebel fighters flanking a command cruiser and from what I've seen it looks like they have the Cerulean Navy out numbered 2 to 1. They do have a few advantages over the rebels though as their pilots are well trained, battle tested and their technology is superior so that may even the odds quite a bit.

Dustin Born, the Professor’s contact, still remains in his recovery room, although we have learned that he has regained consciousness. The Professor also managed to access the security database for the station and discovered that he is due to be arraigned on charges of smuggling “unnamed black market goods as soon as he is well enough to stand trial. With a pending battle on its way at least I know he will be somewhat safe on the station, meaning if he has any information for me regarding Ladybird, it will stay safe too.

EVENT @ Olympus Prime Server FR

The Cerulean Navy needs your help to fight off the invading rebels!

REAL WORLD INFORMATION:

Server: Olympus Prime FR

In-Game Starting Location: The Cerulean Star System (sX 2400, sY 0, sZ 2100)
@ Star Port 27 (pX 10k, pY 5k, pZ 30k)

Date: August 8th, Friday

Time: 14:00 (US Eastern)

There will be a 15 minute grace period. Battle will commence at 14:15. Late comers welcome.

At 14:15, I (Call Sign: Maelstrom) will accept the ***IMG*** contract to destroy a capital ship that will be accompanied by anywhere between 6 to 8 fighters. I have done this mission before on single player and it seems that even though they say 6 to 8, more and more just keep jumping in anyway (usually I’ll take out as many as I can, last time was like 15 fighters, but I am usually dead once I turn my attention to the capital ship). In the event that something comes up and prevents me from playing, please accept my apologies in advance and I will try to setup another day to do it. I will be also using screen and video capture so hopefully I will get some good footage and pics to go along with this part of Maelstrom’s story.

Background as it pertains to Maelstrom’s Story (http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11555)

A Message from Fleet Admiral Michael T. Chadwick, Commander of the Cerulean Navy

“For the past several weeks the Cerulean Rebels have been attacking not just military ships, but civilian ships too, causing a disruption in the daily lives of those trying to do business in the system. They have stolen food, equipment, medical supplies, but worst of all… a weapon that could very well destroy our planetary colonies bringing an end to our lives in this system.

With the help of some very courageous pilots, we discovered in a battle just little over a week ago that a Rebel Command Carrier was in possession of this weapon. At the time it was only rumored, but when a ship covertly scanned the cargo bay it was verified. We were unable to obtain the weapon and feared destroying the ship would have disastrous consequences for the star system. We hoped that we would have more time to deal with this threat but we do not.

Earlier today we discovered that the rebels have a base at the edge of the star system, from which they plan to launch an attack to detonate the weapon over our capital city and the navy command center on Cerulean B.

The majority of our forces will be deployed to engage the rebel fleet at Cerulean A, but the recent fighting has left us with a shortage of men and ships to defend Cerulean B if the rebels break through the line. With Alliance reinforcements too far away to be here in time to help, we will be on our own for now.

So we are asking that every able bodied pilot, experienced or not, please join our defense effort at Star Port 27 to stop the rebels from destroying our homes and way of life. If you do not wish to engage in combat, please stay away from the battle zone, but be ready to help evacuate civilians if needed. Thank You. Non sibi sed patriae!

INCOMING TRANSMISSION 081114:

Good work locating and obtaining data on the rebel base. The information has been sent through the proper channels to the Cerulean Military and they have issued a statement regarding the pending attack, A Message from Fleet Admiral Michael T. Chadwick, Commander of the Cerulean Navy

“For the past several weeks the Cerulean Rebels have been attacking not just military ships, but civilian ships too, causing a disruption in the daily lives of those trying to do business in the system. Our business is almost concluded in this system, but before we can move on to the next leg my mission, you will be once again loaned out to the Cerulean Navy considering the nature of what the Rebels intend to do with the weapon.

Since they have a fleet already in position at Cerulean A as the first line of defense, you will be assigned to defend Cerulean B if needed. The rebels will most likely split their efforts in attempt to make it past the navy to Cerulean B in order to detonate the weapon.

In the event that the rebels are successful in their plans, you will head for the nearest jump gate and get out of the system. Do not attempt to evacuate civilians from the star port or the planet.

In the event the rebels are defeated and the weapon neutralized, return to star port 27 and contact me with your report.

Good luck.

OUTGOING TRANSMISSION 081114:

ATTN: THE DOCTOR
FROM: Maelstrom

Orders confirmed.

Professor Valenti and I have been in contact with the Cerulean Navy and have been assigned to Civilian Squadron Gamma. It seems most of the ships that make up the defense force at Cerulean B are made up of civilians and mercenaries who work in the system and are affected by this conflict.

It seems the rebels have much to answer for, not just to the navy, but to others who have had their lives impacted by the constant raids. Not to mention that if they detonate the weapon it will devastate the economy in the system, leaving many unemployed.

Combat Report: Battle of Cerulean B

The rebel forces managed to break through the navy lines at Cerulean A, but not before both sides dealt heavy damage. At first, reports came in saying the navy was holding ground and even pushing the rebels back toward The Blue Nebula. But then moments later we received another report that stated the rebels were using unmanned ships as missiles, taking out two Navy command cruisers in what seemed like suicide attacks.

Eventually the navy was forced to regroup which allowed the rebel cruiser carrying the weapon, along with several squadrons (about 20 ships total), to break the lines and make their way to our defensive position at Cerulean B.

We engaged the enemy in advance of the rest of the fleet, trying to break their formation. We managed to attract the attention of a few rebel squadrons and, as we led them away from the rebel cruiser, the rest of our fleet jumped in and attacked the remaining rebel forces.
At this point our squadron stopped leading the rebels away and turned to attack. Our ships cut through the enemy with volleys of missiles and a barrage of gunfire and, by the end of our first attack run; we had reduced their numbers by half.

The rest of the defense fleet was fairing against the remaining enemy forces, as most of the ships were now fully engaging the rebel fleet. It seemed like a quick victory for us when marines began to board the cruiser, but in reality the fighting had been going on for 7 hours and would go on for 2 more while the marines took control of the ship and neutralized the weapon.

Defeated and no longer receiving orders from their command cruiser, the remaining rebel ships began retreating back towards their base. While they lost more than 2/3 of their attack force before retreating, the Cerulean Navy Commander has ordered a regroup and attack against the remaining rebel fleet in the nebula to end the threat once and for all.

We are now proceeding to Cerulean A where the Navy and civilian defense forces will meet up and resupply. We will then proceed to the Rebel Base where we plan to destroy any remaining hostile ships, capture the base and arrest the rebel leaders.

CERULEAN NEWS UPDATE!
"A new monument will be built in free space to honor those who lost their lives in the Cerulean Rebel Conflict!"

The Cerulean Rebel Conflict: Revisited
The conflict hasn't been over for very long but already people are beginning to rebuild their lives and re-establish themselves in the Cerulean Star System. To honor those who gave their lives in the civil defense effort, a monument will be built free floating in space located (exact coordinates unknown) by the Olympus Prime jump gate so all those entering the system can see it.

Although the actual conflict did not last very long, about 6 months of organized attacks and fighting, the Rebels (which will become known as the Icarans) opposed the joining of the Alliance for many years. During the transition from civilian government and Alliance control a temporary power vacuum occurred, allowing the rise of several terrorist factions. These terrorist organizations would go on to promote fear in the civilians and merchants that operated in the system leading to many deaths of innocent people.

One such rebel group calling themselves the “Icarans, Named for their leader Devon Icarus, began gathering support in an anti-Alliance campaign. He managed to organize the different pirate factions and formed a military which he used to protect his people from the terrorists. This earned him a great deal of respect and a majority of his followers joined him as they marched on Cerulean B in protest of Alliance membership. However, his efforts would not be successful in keeping the Alliance out as they created a Navy to police the system and wipe out the terrorist threat. With life returning to normal and his people now more accepting of Alliance control, Devon Icarus retreated from the star system to avoid capture as he was now seen as a rebel war criminal.

When he returned to claim revenge on the Alliance he came back in force and wealth. Unknown to the Cerulean Navy he was able to construct a star base in the Blue Nebula, using its distortions for cover, and had been secretly building his forces using his remaining followers and mercenaries. Still calling themselves the Icarans, they began hit and run type attacks against anybody that was seen to be a collaborator or working for the government.

After experiencing a fair amount of success against the Navy, the Icarans stepped up their game and engaged the Cerulean Navy in the “Battle of Sector Red, the first major battle of what would become known as the Cerulean Rebel Conflict. The Icarans dealt heavy damage and destroyed a third of the Navy fleet, but the Navy was successful in the battle as they managed to drive the Icaran forces to retreat.

The “Battle of sector Blue occurred a few months later as The Cerulean Navy intercepted an Icaran Fleet about to attack Star Port 27. During the battle it was discovered that the Icarans had a weapon capable of doing serious damage and due to its destructive nature, the ship carrying the weapon was allowed to retreat rather than accidentally detonating it.

Over the next few weeks the Icarans engaged in several skirmishes all culminating in an attack against Cerulean B in an effort to detonate the weapon and destroy Navy central command along with millions of people living on the colony. Fortunately this devious plan was discovered and the Cerulean Navy, although weakened in recent attacks, were able to defend the planet and finally defeat the Icarans with the help of the combined forces of Independent, merchant and civilian ships that formed a majority of the defense fleet. The battle to defend the planet would come to be known as the “Battle of Cerulean B and would result in the capture and destruction of many Icaran ships and their crews.

As the Icarans retreated the Cerulean Navy pursued and managed to trap them in the Blue Nebula where they would be unable to run away. After a few Icaran ships tried to turn and attack with no success, the others surrendered and the Navy took the Icaran Star Port and captured Devon Icarus, finally defeating them in the “Battle of the Icaran Space Port.

Devon Icarus is still awaiting a trial for his war crimes, but his followers were soon discovered to be mostly peaceful so they were re-integrated into society while the more notable criminal types were imprisoned.

Let us not forget those who fought and gave their lives to end the Icaran Terrorist threat.

Special recognition goes to the Civilian Pilot “Maelstrom, whose courageous sacrifice is not forgotten. He will be remembered as the one who led his squadron in the heart of battle (ahead of the main fleet) in both attacks against the Icarans, for which he gave his life during the latter. He is also the pilot the obtained information about the weapon and the location of the Icaran Star Port. Without his efforts we would have never been victorious in defending our system from the terrorists.

Although he fought and gave his life for our freedoms, he was not actually a Cerulean citizen as he hailed from New Hope in the Sapphire Star System. But for his sacrifice his name will be the first listed on the monument as Honorary Citizen and Defender of our society.

Thank you.
