Roar of big engines
This mod is for you if you like a bigger, deeper, throatier rocket sound from your mercenary ride. If you spent all your money on those level 10 engines, then get the sound to go with them! Take off the space-muffler and let your cockpit shake.
This mode includes these files:
s2.wav--The new sound for the main engine. If you like the computer-assisted training wheels of compensated mode, then this steady roar will patronize your yearning for independence.
tabburn.wav--the good stuff. Heavy afterburner with gentle oscillations to keep your double burners from tearing your ship in half. Find out why pilots wear heavily padded helmets.
tabon.wav--nothing. Absolute nothingness. Why? Because you when you kick in that afterburner, you don't want a flaccid whinging buildup to full power. You want it NOW! Accelerate with an instant, explosive BLAST OF FIRE! Show your enemies that Crazy Ivan was here.
taboff.wav--Engines need a little cooling off period after your afterburners fire up. The flames go out as the fuel is turned off. This does not mean you can't throttle that puppy up again, though! Go ahead!
For maximum ear damage, wear headphones.

Would also like to give this a test flight. But, as with the link for the big guns file, I keep getting the same Q & A screens repeatedly ad nauseum. no joy.

about the "pop up screens", if you have Ad Blocker you don't get any of those options. It just goes straight to download. Just go to google and search Ad Blcok (whatever browser you use).
I use FIrefox: Google Search, Ad Blocker Firefox.
Download it and forget all pop up's and block pages.

Hahahahahahahah I totally agree with Busch. Thanks Nigel! Your mods really improved my immersion. Guns sound like canons, engines sound like a "space rocket" should sound. I look forward to all of your mods. I will be in line to try them.Busch

I've been working on another engine sound set that is not quite as loud. I'll post it soon. The idea behind this next one is that the engine sounds are indirect vibrations of the ship frame through the pressurized cabin.

Alas, my sound creating skills are too limited to handle many of these. I went with silence for sounds that occur outside the spaceship (e.g. nebula thunder, explosions, flybys, etc.). Some sounds I grabbed from other peoples' mods too.
I've been trying to do a weaponload sound, but I have not yet been satisfied with any of my attempts. It could be beyond what I can do with Audacity.

Why would nebular thunder be silent? Wouldn't the plasma (or whatever the composition of the nebula) propagate the sound?

I'm not enough of an astrophysicist to know for sure, but I figure that nebulae, though beautiful from light yeas away, are probably not very dense, and not dense enough to carry sound (or breathe, even if they are oxygen nebulae).

It's a particle! It's a wave! It's a wavey particle! Both sound and light dynamics conform to universal physical 'laws'. Why wouldn't a thunderous nebulae make it's own 'music' ? Is no one there to listen ? (That 'tree falling in the forest' thing.)

I think someone had a sound that was really cool for the FT detonations. It was the sound of radio interference followed by a kind of wash (no sound in space mod). I thought the idea was brilliant. So, if I were going to include nebula lightening sound, it would be something like radio interference or static.

Think you've got the handle on it, Nigel. There's a reason why they call them 'radio telescopes'. The lightening sound effect appears to be a constant, whether in nebulae or in planetary atmosphere. Were there a 'parting of the way', so to speak, it may be a touch more facile to distinguish between them. If wishes were fishes.... I think I still have archived that 'no sound in space' mod. I'll check it out.
