Please check out this site

http://emerald7beacon.caster.fm/

I have built this streaming radio site with synthetic text to speech voices. The Idea is to provide a 24/7 ambient space music with information and adverts that would be something someone might listen to in long term space travel.

The Emerald 7 Space Beacon is a 7 trillion watt fusion powered Laser beacon located in the Alpha Quadrant in the Milky Way galaxy. It is free to use as a navigational aid for all space travelers. Tune to this carrier frequency for our free radio with science/space news and information.

I have segments sponsored by Tyrell Corp or Weyland Yutani and Armstrong mining. I will be making some adverts about deep sleep stasis monitoring, pay services for the laser beacons deep space communications system. At Emerald 7, "We Link the Galaxy!"

Try to listen through a two hour segment and you will hear a lot of features like a live 3 minute podcast from this week at NASA, and the scientific American 1 minute space feature and some weyland Yutani building new worlds 30 second spots and some really good ambient space music by the best artists!

If you go to the website and listen in, please be sure to vote by clicking on the Thumbs Up icon in the upper right side of the page next to the line of stars. I would like to get enough votes to have 3 stars which is good, better than one star for poor! :)

Check it out! I think you will like the concept!

Thanks for checking it out and voting!

I have worked on this project for about a year. I had to learn the radio automation software and to write the scripts that allow the text to speech voices to announce the music and provide timed station breaks, Plus gathering the materials to produce the fake ads and such.

I am very excited by the result and will be adding more stuff like weekly lecture series, say Stephen Hawking lectures on time travel broken down into 5 minute sections with spacey background music played in installments every evening at 10 pm beacon standard time.

Stay tuned!

I love the Weyland Yutani adverts - makes me want to set up an android staffed mining facility - yet another career option in the Evoverse! :P:P:P

I have to say thanks for the great feedback and those votes!

I did not go with shoutcast as I read somewhere they are being bought out and might go down, plus there is so many stations over there. I like the caster.fm guys and they have a really good control panel and extra features.
You can connect with winamp and other players besides the Java based web page player.

I wish I had more of those Weyland Yutani ads they are so much more professional than the ads I make.
I have some really dark ambient music, that is somewhat scary to listen to, but I think I am going to create a 2 hour show that starts at 2am in the morning.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for the positive feedback!

I just finished adding 3 new station Id's.
A one minute id that quotes the LLCD Nasa project for the first laser to transmit data from the moon to the planet earth.
A 30 second description of the 7 trillion watt fusion power and a 10 second "We link the Galaxy Spot".

Cheers!

Hah! I had thought that something like this would be an interesting addition to the game, but someone had to actually go and do it. Wonderful!

Also, good ambient music. I'm glad that it is not some 21st century rock or similar trendy stuff to keep us rooted in the past as we escape into the future.

You guys totally get it!

The music needs to be futuristic, and somewhat cyber.

No rock, No Rap, or anything that creates a sense of an era. It's a fine line and picking the music is not easy, because I want it to be enjoyable but not too new age, and the best stuff creates a sense of the vast silence of space like everyone on board your craft is in stasis/deep sleep. The right music will actually put you to sleep, so I try to mix in some beat based music.

My rotations are currently ambient and dark ambient. My dark ambient material plays from 2am to 6am Beacon Standard time.
(Beacon time is announced every even numbered hour)
The Dark Ambient is very experimental and can be very strange and harsh at times. I try to listen around the clock and if I hear a track that dosesn't fit in, then I log into the server and delete the track.

I have repeats set to 12 hours per track but the software will let one through from time to time. Remember the station is running 24 hours 7 days a week.
Thanks!!

There is some rumors on shoutcast forums about microsoft buying it from AOL and some rumor about AOL shutting it down. Who knows about all that being true or not. I like caster.fm , and if they become a problem I will host my own address.

DaveK, I will consider something along the lines of an Evochron advert talking about clans are recruiting check the forums for more information.

It will be a while though, as Classic computer life has hit me, right when I start to get some listeners , my server starts acting up. It fell offline about 3 times last night, so I had to reboot and my clock was messed up. Some of my new scheduling was lost. So I am building another machine as quick as possible to replace the current server.
thanks!

Cyclic: If you haven't already done so, you should find a spot (maybe near Emerald) or in Alpha Centari (alpha quadrant?) and create a station there, and call it Emerald 7 Space Beacon. Create it in MP so others can visit...
