researchers are cutting down the travel time to mars from 6-10 months, to 39 days.
how? A plasma thruster (VASIMR). Guess it's been in development for quite a while... I just saw it in my latest Aviation Week magazine

39 days still leaves a lot of recycled waste products to drink and someday eat (double Yuck ) on your way there and back.

Doesn't a plasma thruster have more risk and is more dangerous to use? They may not make it at all if something goes wrong! But it would be cool if they could do it in 39 days!
