All of a sudden my pan controls do not work.
In the key/button assignment menu I am not able to set a key or button to those controls.
Also axis #6 slider is quivering in place.
Everything else seems to be working for setting control assignments.
I do not use these controls much and so I did not detect difficulty began.
I am using a Saitek X52 pro.

Are you using the Saitek Profile Editor or just the ingame controller setup? You might have some Key binding conflicts. Do the Keyboard commands for Pan work?

PS: I am not using the Saitek software.
All of the assignments were working fine before.
It is only the main stick hat that is out.
I use the pinkie trigger on the stick a lot.
There aren't any conflicts in the EM programming page.

Try to reassign the hat views if possible.

Nope.
That hat won't assign to anything.
I am wondering if I locked up the ability to assign it somehow???

When you go into the X52 Pro control panel to test the hat does the Hat movent trigger in all directions?

Yes, the hat works in the control panel.
Which means the electricals and mechanicals are okay.
I looked at the other Saitek thread and it has me wondering if somehow I set up an assignment or conflict because I use the pinkie stick trigger to fire missiles/secondary weapons.
So.... more weirdness......I heard a thruster when I used the hat. So I checked it out and somehow the stick hat is now controlling the strafe directions in addition to the throttle hat.
I checked the other throttle hat which controls the strafe and tried reassigning everything. There was no conflict. but the stick hat would not assign.
The stick hat will not assign to anything.

The stick HAT has its own dedicated control option. Rather than static button inputs, the HAT input (on the stick) provides angular returns. So you need to use the 'Joystick HAT' option to bind a function pattern to it. That control option is in the main Options menu, rather than in the axis or button menus. The throttle HAT just returns button signals, so you map that using the key/button configure controls menu.
Why your controls are changing would be a mystery. Unless you have some kind of file backup restore utility that is replacing old files and removing new ones, there isn't a cause I can think of... at least on the game side of things. I would suggest you check the key/button menu carefully. Look for any entries that are red which will indicate a conflict with another function mapped to that same key/button. Then correct as needed.

That did the trick.
Somehow the stick hat got switched to strafe.
Just setting it back to pan fixed it.
Thanks!
