Civil Fleet ?

Post by Major Grubert »

So, i see we can hire pilots and ships as fleet, i started to hire 2 from yesterday...

How much ship can we hire ?

Does the fleet gives other advantage than the orders we can assign them ?

I saw it doesn't make sensor larger.. for exemple..

Do we have to care about refueling them or things like that ? or just need to pay the wage thing ?

thanks a lot

 Wages are paid automatically. I don't know the maximum number of mercenaries we can hire but, at one time or another, I've hired quite a few ... and never reached a limit. As for orders, what you see on the drop-down menu is what you get. As for fuel, in Mercenary they refuel whenever they feel like it ... unlike Arvoch Alliance where your wingmen won't refuel or rearm unless you order them to.

I haven't been able to hire AI pilots in MP. I don't think you can.

MP is a different kettle of fish when it comes to hiring AI mercenaries. If you can do it at all, it's only in a war zone. Otherwise, no.

We could still use you in MP Major! Personally I think it's much better to fly with real wing men. If you hop in tonight hit me up and you can run as my gunner for a few contracts or if you're confident you won't be destroyed by AI we can just do some contracts as wing men.

I had the same plans and came to the same realization. I wanted to grind my rep to the rebels and then grab a full armada of rebel AI to attack systems with. /sniffle.

Ahaha. Navigation in this game is confusing as well but once you get a grasp on it you immediately realize why he made it all the way he did. I move allll over the quadrant. I spend 90% of my time in charted systems. Agate is TGS headquarters and Cygnus is our defensive front.

I'll be online in a few hours. I play exclusively on Starport6 because I like the rule set (no hardcore griefing, no cursing). If you see me on just shout a hello out and we'll meet up and shoot some reds! :)

In MP-space, on any platform, you can not hire any AI/NPC ships for fleet actions. In SP-space, you may hire as many civ merc ships as you can safely afford. In the CZ/WZ's, you may solely order the AI/NPC Navy ships from the drop-down menu under "Order". For those engaged in co-op missions in the CZ/WZ's, the "Primary Pilot" (aka the pilot who accpeted the mission for all) may order the AI/NPC Navy ships to action stations. Also, in the absense of the Primary Pilot's orders, any co-op mission-involved pilot of Commodore rank or better, may order the AI/NPC Navy ships. *You can not hire the AI/NPC Navy, you may only "order" them for that current mission.* :)

P.S. Your fleet won't make thru any jump gates either.

hum interesting :)
(rp mode)
dont know about gates... i dont use gates :) Space Frogs only jump and jump and jump... never use gates, gates are invented for track peoples all around... we know that plot about gates
(/rp mode)

There is that order i dont use yet "mine asteroid"

so, they mine and then ? they sold in station ?

As i own the fleet do i get money from their mining ?

I foud a little deceptive that for the price i hire them they cant cargo items for me :), but i agree that it could get to much big business to fast maybe... :)

@ EN4CER :) sorry mate i played only a couple hours last night, got tired, and i dont have real navigation problem, just cant remember name of the system i was :)

navigation is ok, thanks, got to finish some exploration program from Alpha Centaury > Virgo, then i'll join some of you in mp for havin fun against [V] or [?] :)

In SP-space, you can order your fleet to mine asteroids, and they will. I'm not all that clear on how the trick is turned, once your fleet has partial or full cargo holds. I remember some discussion re: using a mining probe to give a "drop point" for your fleet pilots/ships. I do understand that you (as the "command pilot") are supposed to reap the benefit of your fleet's mining activities; I just don't know the mechanics involved in exchanging their "product" for more cash in your pocket. I'll have to research that one. Maybe DaveK's Hint/Tips/Tricks compendium or the Merc Manual will have some info on the turning. Have you checked those yet, M-G ? :)

Thanks a lot for the informations...

The fleet can improve game play in many way i guess, i will search about all capacities and details, i wish i can then make some translations for my frogs :)

I will look at Davek's resources again, maybe there are more about this mining things :)

Today about fleet i experiment something strange, i had some ship i dismiss from the fleet, then i hire new ones, one mammoth and 2 starmasters, we moved around the station, then i set a nav point some jump away..
and only the mammoth jumped with me..

at first i think "oh they dont have a mantis drive..." as it happen with some ships on my previous fleet, funny, they just come little late but they follow its ok..

so while at my destination i waited for them... but they dont come at all.. they are still in my fleet because i saw the payed wage gone.. fleet 1, fleet 2, fleet 3, ok... but only the mammoth comes

then i sold my stuff, fuel on, check the ship and all and return where i hire those 2 starmasters

i found them waiting at doin nothing, lazy guys, i canceled all orders, i checked about factions, maybe cant join in fleet ships from a or b with c faction, dunno, but the mammoth is Energy, one of the starmatsrs is Energy to and the second one is Navy..

the i tried to order them to protect me and we fly little away, they follow me, but if i jumped even little jump still only mammoth jump with me

so i dismiss the 2 starmasters fleet and only keep the mammoth with me

i still dont find out about mining things, will check that and report here

Try targeting your fleet members individually, then issue/toggle the desired order. (Maybe..I hope?) I've had the same experience, where one ship of my fleet has always tagged along. Or at least was in a closer proximity to me than the other fleet members. (2 as well) I know that in combat scenarios, the better order option is to have them attack the hostiles rather than protect you. More guns on more targets = quicker force reduction.

Again, I'm not too sure of the mining probe/fleet drop point connection. I related the "discussion" I read regarding that "potential" option, thusly the research into the topic. :)

Hum,
something strange again, last night we were cruising with my fleet member (1 mammoth), doin the cash/exploration routine... then on the way, between 2 jump, we cross planets, a strange compact system, so i decide to go have a look

here the mammoth do not follow me, dunno why, i go near a planet, near asteroid, started to mine a little, waited, give order to mine... but the mammoth stay away, out of radar range

as soon as i jump back on "the way" (i mean i continue my run to distant point) he was here right behind me :), but ???

So, at this time i found it really cool to have that option about building a fleet, it seems logic that a rich merc start to hire other merc to work for/with him. I guess i just need to find to to make it more incentive to use, because it cost around 200.000 a wage, and those wage looks shorter than for crew members :) so, basically I guess there is a profitable way to use them

but, that's really cool to have a fleet :), gonna try some things out... (mining, and something like "the seven mercenary" attack of the diligence...)

Yesterday I hire a Miner ship, today i log and it turn as a Navy ship... dunno that AI guys can change faction like this :)

However i do not find some very profitable use for fleet yet, i tested same trade way with no fleet and only had more yellow and red blip on radar, but no major change in gameplay, less fun to be alone, but damn the price for fleet get bigger each time i log on... there must be a way it worth it

So i keep this one new fleet with me, a starmaster navy, and plan to make a bigger fleet to attack some hostile system, for give a try...
but right now he is missing a mantis drive so we go there and there and i hope he bought one soon...

still cant make it mine for me at this time
