Distress call coordinates

Post by antvas1963 »

when you get a distress call alert how are you suppose to get the coordinates on the nav map? I tried to move the cursor around the map and zoom out but that didnt work. I tried to enter the coordinate values into the box on the right side above the nav map but that didnt work either. Is there a way to load the coordinates from the alert directly to the nav computer and jump there? I havent really left Sapphire because I cant figure out the navigating.

If you check the screenshots in the above posts, you'll see little purple flower-like icons. Those are jumpgates. They lead to different star systems. You can compare the gates with the connected star systems by opening your Nav Console and clicking on the "Quadrant Map" button.

Most distress calls come from one of those other star systems. Until you get to the correct star system, there's no need to worry about in-system coordinates. And, unless you're in a system that's close by, it's not likely you'll get to the distress sector in time to do any good.

All of this will be explained in more detail after the expansion goes gold.

One thing I would recommend, antvas1963, is that you take a look at SeeJay's website http://evochron.junholt.se/ and get familiar with which planets are in which system, because both the emergency delivery distress calls and the stranded pilot distress calls will reference a nearby planet in addition to the exact coordinates. By knowing which planets are in which system, you can spend less time trying to figure out where abouts these calls are from, and more time getting there. Also, make sure you've got lots of fuel before tackling those, because the tend to be pretty far out there.

The one time I got stranded myself, was when I was trying answer a stranded pilot distress call :P

To Marvin, do we have any good guesses about the expansion's release window? I know I heard Captain Cronic talking about his experience testing, but I haven't seen any recent updates from Vice.
Agent Zirdik, out.

 Only Vice knows for sure. Looking through all the changes and additions, there must be a lot of things to check before the game is released.

Distress call coordinates

I feel the same the first time i tried to answer a DC... looking at the numbers in the message, guessing it's coordinates... then "oh ok i should put them ... here.. ?? ok and there... Sx SY S... hum..."
then push the button
then the ship goes, and goes and goes and..
ok the call was very far away and i dont know it.. :) ran out of fuel in the middle of nowhere and thinking "this game is awesome, i can mybe stay there during next ten years and nobody care", the i bought the game immediately :D

navigation is not that hard, at first it looks tricky but quickly it turn as real big part of gaming fun..

first things i needed to always remember my self was about "sector coordinate" and "in-sector coordinate" coupled with jump drive and fuel tank capacity :)

it give me some type of navigation : 1/ in-system nav is about moving around planets, exploring, landing, docking, mining and so on, small scale
2/ between-sector nav is about linking known systems, discover new ones, using gates, large scale
3/ auto-pilot nav, for long distance run between ungated systems (what u dont use that much at first, but then...)
4/ fighting nav, even with a civ ship u need to learn some trick about those red guys around.. :)

this universe is kind of "big" :), many situations, adventures !

and read the forum, it gives lot of informations :)

:P ... :D ... :) ... Ahhh ... but, seriously, you'll usually find somebody in MP who cares enough to give you a lift. ;)
