There are axis mapping for up/down and left/right.
We need forward/backwards too. Keyboard button just can't provide fine control.
Please add axis mapping to forward/backward thruster

It is being added, so you'll be able to map an axis channel to forward and reverse thrust when the IDS is off. The option will also support mapping the control to the same axis as the throttle, so you won't have to contend with using two separate axis channels for both controls (although you'll be able to set it up that way also). If the variable axis control is mapped to the same axis as the throttle, the variable throttle control, which normally ranges from 0 to 100%, will automatically switch to variable control from -100% (reverse) to 100% (forward) with 0 in the middle when you're on inertial. Just something to be aware of when you switch IDS modes if you plan to use the option.

I searched and searched for this in the bindings. As a work around I use strafe thrusters until the expansion or patch that he is adding it in gets released. Far from perfect but better than facing the direction (or opposite direction) and using your afterburner (or reverse afterburner).
