I am very interested in getting Mercenary; the game looks absolutely phenomenal. The problem is that for most of the year, all I have is a laptop. I've looked up the key controls, and I'm missing quite a number of the keys that are used. I lack a numpad, insert, home, page up, page down, delete, and end.
My question is if the game is still easily playable without these keys?

You should be able to, the insert, home, page up, page down, delete, and end keys are primarily view controls. The numpad is used for message line control (which you can use the mouse/trouchpad for) and shield management. Shield management could be tricky without the numpad, but you could map the augment equalize key to some other accessible key to make that work. Or map the individual array controls to keys you want (if enough are remaining and available on that keyboard).

I can run Skyrim on my HP Probook Laptop and Evochron as well. It depends on the laptop and some aren't ment for gaming. Though if you want a gaming laptop it usually will cost you a pretty penny. Thankfully I got this baby while it was on sale.
