Question about enemy ships

Post by Doomhammer »

Hi, I'm fairly new to the Evochron universe and started playing EM a while ago. So far I've found a good formula for handling enemy ships but now there's a new problem:
I'm playing in Alpha Centauri for a while trying to get my overall reputation to "good". So I'm mainly doing patrol contracts for the Navy.
Thing is, I've started the game up today and when I go fighting, the enemies come in newfangled ships having the word "Evoch-#" (# is a letter of sorts, usually C or E) and "Chimera" in their ID that tear my current ship a new exhaust pipe.

I have a relatively good setup I think, a Venture frame, Engine 5, Shield 4, Wingsys 9 with Trebuchet Cannon and Fusion Beam. Repair C3, Cannon Relay Sys (still looking for a Heatsink) and a Shield Boost X5. Crew consists of a 100 skill Engineer and a 72 skill Weapon Officer.

Are these ships some sort of glitch, or are they simply the consequences of progress?

The Chimera is a top-of-the-line military frame. It sounds like you've flown into a warzone based on the naming convention. As for your frame, I'd get a better one.

Question about enemy ships

 If you check your quadrant tech map, you'll notice that Alpha Centauri is one of the highest systems around, technology-wise. The pilots inhabiting that system usually fly the very best. Do some shopping at a local trade station and you might find some very interesting items for sale.
