Help on IMG scanning quest

After much frustration, I've finally managed to get the rhythm down for combat, with or without missiles. Now I find myself stuck on this scanning quest.

Taking out the four initial guards on the transport is easy enough, but I find myself at the mercy of what the game randomly decides to throw in next. The prospect of sticking within range wouldn't be so bad, but more often than not reinforcements jump in almost as fast as I can kill them. If that weren't bad enough, another transport jumps in practically without fail, and thanks to all the other friendlies in the sector, the transport is usually dead in 30 seconds by the time I can circle back for a complete scan.

Is there any way to get a break so I can scan this thing and be done with it?

Well after only be successful in this quest after many and many tries, I found out that getting rid of escort and first reinforcement as fast as possible is the way to go. Ignore the other transport and just concentrate on the scanning and launch CM for incoming missiles. With a bit of luck, you should pass this quest.

It might not help if you are right at the start but you can ignore the CAP screen if you have stealth technology (permanant generator or the 60 sec one shot "missiles")

i think the scanning time is cumulative

make repeated passes close to the capital ship
until you get a total of 60 sec scanning time.

its been a long time since i did one this way so it may have changed

I'll have to try that again, but I seem to recall the time resetting if I broke off to get rid of a defender.

Many pilots find that the safest spot is directly underneath the cap ship ... using its own shields as protection. Additionally, you should crank up your own shields as high as possible and make good use of CMs. Lots of CMs. Lots and lots of CMs. And leave the cap's escort to somebody else.

I traveled to Pearl and got a stealth device from there (SO MUCH RED). Hilariously, what made this mission so difficult made the next one terribly simple (if tedious). Destroying the cap ship was just a matter of waiting for everyone else to do the job while shooting down the never-ending reinforcements.

The scan resets if you get out of range (1500)
