In need of guidance for a mid(?)-game crisis
I have played for about 30 hours so far. I have maxed out my ship (stardestroyer or w/e it's called) and got the best guns/lasers I could find. I farmed money for a while to achieve that and I had lots of fun doing it.
Now that I have the best "that I could find" I just do not know what to do. I could raise my reputation somewhere doing missions, but I do not know why I would. I could build stations but again, not sure what the incentive is.
I would really appreciate it if something could just give me a task. I mean it. Someone tell me to just go and do something (In EM that is!). I cannot seem to come up with a goal on my own. I log into my game and cannot figure out what to do. This happens when playing games that are so sandbox-y. And the I tend to just shelf the game and never play em again!
Someone tell me to go build XXX in YYY sector or go find ZZZ system or raise my reputation in whichever system. Something. Anything. Whatever you guys would do next if you were me.
And I realize most of you would probably give me the advice of "just play the game the way you want to". But I would rather have someone boss me around and give me one (or more) specific goals that I can have fun achieving.
Thanks in advance!

Well there, thank you!
I'm doing it now. I love this, no decision to make, people here do it for me.
Can you please give me my next step for when I am done with all of it?
Thanks!

Tell you what, when you're done with the IMG quest, I'll tell you exactly what to do.
Promise.

You're only saying that because you know I'm stuck right? You evil little devil
I managed to protect the capital ship on quest #4 or 5 but the next one if giving me trouble. There's about 12 bad guys, which means more since other bad guys seem to just show up anywhere I go do a mission.
Tried to log onto a few main servers to get some help, but it's mostly a ghost town around. Any tips?

Evil little devil? Maybe on one shoulder. But on the other is Sasha Grey dressed in an angel outfit.
Marvin is right, timing is everything. If I see you on the Galactica server today I'll lend a hand. It's much easier with a friend to draw some fire away.
Keep trying, somebody will help you.

Brisos: welcome to Evochron!
You can hire NPC ships to fight with you too. Do not rule out that possibility. Once you have a small armada, send them to their destiny! IF they survive, you will have to pay them (cyclic, actually) until you dismiss them.
Do you have a Mantis drive?
So, here are some things to try.
1. Build an armada of 30 ships or so, then do a mission to see how that works out.
2. Use your armada to mine asteroids. Does it pay off? Be careful to take notes on the costs to maintain the fleet vs. the income from the mining operations.
3. Participate in weapon tests. One of the players here wanted to test different weapons to see how long each takes to destroy a ship. You'd need to be killed over and over again, but it's in the name of science.
4. Try to find Al's Quay, Secret Pearl, and some other well-known (secret) destinations.
5. I wonder if Andromeda is still open...or Riftspace. Riftspace is actually a great place to create a savegame because you can get to almost anywhere fast from there.
6. Have you explored all of the asteroid caves? I just be there is a surprise in one or two of them.
7. Assault Vonarion! If you can figure out how to get to Vonari space, go there, find Secret Base (or whatever the name is) and if you can't find it, you can build a base there.
8. Start locating unknown systems. There is a whole method for this that involves careful note-taking and a lot of patience. The rewards can be interesting. For instance, you can find hidden stashes that contain unimaginable wealth. Unimaginable.
So, that's all the chores I have for you for now. Let me know what your results are.

A Mantis drive? I have the C5. Pretty sue that's the best/most expensive I've seen and I've explored most of the systems except Sol (can't see a path to it yet).
I read about finding hidden stuff but I'm afraid it will be too time consuming for me and a bit of a headache. The trilateration and the extra program to run... I just don't think I'll enjoy that.
I made note of everything else though!
I explored 2 asteroids so far but did not find anything. One station and nother in the other one (in Pearl I think). I think there were chests in there but I failed at finding them. I even squeezed through some tight spaces like a pro!

mantis drive = 10 sec per jump
look closer in the asteroids and watch for purple blip on radar
every thing i have found was without any external program and not difficult

Hi Brisos
the following ideas are from the Hints & Tips Guide:
• go to Sol system, also Riftspace and Vonari space and the Andromeda Galaxy!
• go to Sol system and attempt to land on earth in one piece
• find the planet with asteroids virtually touching the surface
• try to land on a gas giant or one of the lava worlds
• find the asteroid cave that very very close to a star and try to enter it!!
• learn to jump through a blackhole reliably
• if you enjoy combat with other pilots (as opposed to AI) add
to the front of your callsign (where x stands for "feel free to try to shoot me"
• you can start changing your reputation in the systems by doing quests for navy/energy, to change them to "Good", so there won't be any more hostiles in there
• get maximum rank both for civilian and for military
• you can change the economy of systems by building stations (of all types) in those systems (trade stations, research stations, ore stations, energy stations, etc.) See what kind of impact that has. Raise economies! Create good trading systems for relatively new pilots
• join or create a clan - defend clan space and do contracts to maintain clan control
• see how fast you can go just using your sublight engines
• become a baddy and join the Reavers or BA Clan
• join a friendly clan and help pilots (SAR missions and general help and assistance
• Explore. Either looking for new systems on your own (especially by using a deploy constructor which you can use both for refuelling, and the sensor array which helps you scan the present sector for other AI and human ships)
• There are hundreds of uncharted systems, several asteroid caves with a variety of goodies inside
• Visit the server (9999,9999,9999)
• Or, just load up the coordinates from the many hidden systems already found by other players and go there, see what's there.
• run your own MP server - create a Universe that's a bit different
• organise community activities like a "last man standing" competition or treasure hunt
• create a quest - there are people who will help you code it when you've got the story line sorted
• check out some of the "facts" bandied about on the forum; how long can a C1 particle cannon fire for non-stop. Does it depend on the frame? How does it compare to a C10 etc
• If you have the flair, turn some of your adventures into stories for others to enjoy
• really insult one of the good pilots and then time how long you survive (good activity if you only have a few minutes to spare)
• join the Vonari-toasting get togethers in the warzones
And Vice says . . . "And believe it or not, there is also a sizeable number of players who want (and have even demanded from me, lol) that they be given the option to have 'no hardship'. They literally want to fly around in peaceful space as much as possible just to calmly mine asteroids, explore caves, traverse planets, deliver items, transport people, find lost items, design ships, race, and/or recover/sell fuel. It's part of the reason why there are significant areas of peaceful space in the game along with hardship bypasses like high speed travel and stealth/cloaking devices.

Quick reply to say that I did a few of the tips listed in the posts above and it helped. I feel a little bit better about giving myself new goals, knowing what said goals could potentially be.
Right now I decided to learn more about combat. I did some contracts with other/better pilots (Austin, Desolus, Kadeshi and others). Even got to gun for some of them. People were saying gunning is a great way to learn. To be honest it was all going so fast that I don't think I had time to learn much. But just trying to get a few kills and protect against missiles was fun enough.
I even got to compete against a few of what I think are big names around here, so that was lots of fun as well. Will be back for more!
