It speeds up repairs automatically at different speeds depending on what class you have installed. :)

And without an auto repair system your ship will not repair itself, even if you have an engineer on board.

In support of Nubarus, in fact if you hire an Engineer and you don't have a repair system of any kind installed, you'll see his/her/it's heels and elbows churning the other direction, upon your next port-of-call. C3 repair systems are top-of-the-line. Either buy it outright, or build (construct) it; 25 units/machinery. (tip) Repair "speeds" differ with the system, station, carrier, or constructor you happen to light upon, as I've found. Or (gasp!), you could pay for your repairs.....;)
