Hello, just got EM yesterday, I must say, WOW. This game is beautifully made, better than a lot of space sim I've played back in the day.
I'm running into some problems.
I'm being constantly owned in dogfights. I do have a joystick. When do you switch energy from Weapon to Shields? How often do you do it? Should I use more missiles over cannons and lasers??
On certain quests I cannot find the object I'm supposed to bring back. Such as the "lost object" by the navy or the escape pod that needs to be rescued. It seems that after accepting the mission, I'd go to the way point, and NOTHING is there.
How do I enter planets? Everytime I tried I get fried. Is there a certain way I have to approach a planet in order to get into its atmosphere?
How do i respond to distress calls? I get the coordinate, yet when I entered the coordinates, they dont exist?
thanks

Hello, Newb here. some questions
I ran into alot of the same problems you did when I first started and hopefully I can help you out with some of your questions.
1)For dog fights it just takes practice your gonna die alot your first couple times. I almost stopped playing the game I would get so mad. What I figured out is you have to use inertia and drift by your target firing at them. Alot of the other players call it making passes after one or 2 passes you should be able to take a enemy out. Also make sure that you don't head face first into the middle of a group try and pick a straggler on the outside and make a pass there. Last thing you want to do is get surrounded and be taking fire on all sides. Missiles are expensive but work quite well but cannons and lasers will do the trick by themselves so its up to what you like best. Learn the range of your weapons and make sure your firing as soon as your target gets in range.
2) I thought the same thing on missions where I am supposed to identify a lost object. When you head to a waypoint look at your 3d map in the center of your ship. Eventually when you are close to the way-point a purple dot will show up on your radar this is the lost item. Just head toward the dot and you will find the item. If you are supposed to recover the item make sure you use your tractor beam and then head back to the base you started the mission at.
3) To learn how to enter planets is easy if you had done the in game tutorial the reason you burn up is because you have to enter the atmosphere at under 1200 speed or you will burn up.
4) For distress calls you might not be able to jump directly too them because you are to far way make sure you look at what sector the call is from and see on your nav if it is close enough to where you are. If you want you can hit auto pilot when you enter the coordinates and it will take you there but make sure you are close enough to make it to the destination or you will get stranded in space with no fuel.
Good luck and welcome to the game!

Hello, Newb here. some questions
Man, I feel your pain. Been there. Oh wait, crap, I'm STILL there : )
And, I apologize in advance for not directly answering all your questions. I'm just trying to point you to some resources. The reason being is that I'm such a newbie that the other sources will have much better info than what I could reply with. Of course, some friendly pilots may drop by and try to answer your questions directly. >>>>>HA! Which is exactly what happened while I was typing this wall of text : )
There is a bit of a learning curve to this game. But it is easily doable, you just have to preserver a little then it will begin to click. And it's really worth it. I'm 62 this month. If I can do it, anyone else can to. Well, of course, I'm still a newbie.
You have a lot of very good questions. There are a lot of good resources, but it will take some time to get all the answers to your questions. But, the good thing is, the answers are all available. And not that hard to locate.
In all the list below, if you want the best, fastest, easiest, and probably very enjoyable way to learn, log on to a multiplayer server. Number 7 (lucky 7) below. I have not done that yet, but the instructions look pretty dang easy and the people (in the main : ) seem to be extremely helpful.
1. Search this forum and the newbie's forum. The search tool works pretty good. Many of the questions you will find answers to in the first few pages of each forum. Most have been answered many times so you should not have to look very long to get to some really good detailed info. I would recommend spending a few hours (yes, hours) just cruising backwards through the forums and stopping to read relevant posts. You will find a massive amount of great info.
2. Check out the tutorial in the game.
3. Check out the videos on you tube. (see the stickies at the top for links to all those).
4. Check out the "guide" that comes with the game. It should be in the same folder as the game.
5. Check out this older guide for the game that preceded this one. The mechanics and other stuff on how things work are almost exactly the same and there is a LOT of great info (more than what is in the current game's guide).
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegen ... lguide.htm
6. Go SLOW. Start EASY. So, just do some mining and trade what you mine. Get some money so you can upgrade your ship and weapons (and shields, etc). Learn how to fly to cities on the planet (yes, I realize that is one of your questions). Do ALL that in the beginning system (Sapphire?). I don't recommend starting to fight for a while. But, if you want to, pick out a friendly ship in space and practice "attacking" him (but don't shoot : ) So, practice your approaches (see above for resources that will detail how to do that). Once you learn that, do the same, but this time actually shoot (note, pick smaller ships : ). Don't save and just blow yourself up (or exit; don't save) so that your reputation does not suffer.
7. Some people would rather not (me for now : ), but you can log on to a multiplayer server and they will take the time to show you all that stuff (and more) and get you on your feet (so to speak) really quickly. Really really quickly.
Just hang in there.
Thanks,
Tarl
