Fuel Processor

Post by Raynor »

Well i've been playing for 3 months and probably at least a 100 hours but it seems i have to come to the newbie board.

Fuel processors. So i read about it, I deploy, ok. Did that. I go inside it. Ok. Did that. I boost energy to weapons. Ok. Did that Well i did all that and two things happen: jack and s**t. I sit and wait and wait and i get no fuel whatsoever. Nothing happens at all. So i don't know what's wrong. Is this all i need to deploy for it to work? Please someone help.

Hi, Raynor!

In order to get fuel in to your space craft, all you have to do is to click on deploy on the HUD that opens up a little menu saying energy station, repair station, sensor station, fuel processor, shield array and mining probe, click on fuel processor, fly inside the fuel processor and wait. It refuels your spacecraft at a rate of about 5 units of fuel about every 3-5 seconds. The deploy constructor is required in order for the fuel processor to work. I think you are having problems refueling your spacecraft is you don't have a deploy constructor installed on your spacecraft. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Could possibly be that you're not close enough to the center pylon of the processor, practically have to have nose of ship touching it. And have to be completely still.

When it works you'll see your energy immediately empty.

If it still doesn't work I'm not sure what's going on.

Trig: hmm, i think i did exaclty that. I'll make sure to try it once more and make sure my nose is right on the pylon and that im perfectly still. But I doubt i didn't do exactly that already.... I remember sitting for like a minute and my ship was basically still on the processor's "floor" and i was right next to the pylon. Is there any part of the map in which processors don't work? I really feel i might have some sort of bug going on. I tried building it in different sectors where i was (in wolfzone) and everytime it didn't do anything...

Well....If i DIDN'T have a deploy constructor then i wouldn't have been able to build the fuel processor and subsequently get inside it to find out it didn't work. I might be somewhat stupid on occasions but I'm not quite completely retarded. Yet.

Well that is a mystery but fuel processors are absolutely not working for me. Ill try them again out of th ewolfzone when i'm out of there but i've just made another test and it just doesn't work. i get in, get close to pylon, stop moving, nothing at all happens. So i guess i'm gonna have to build stations to refuel instead. A much costlier alternative.

Are you sure you are standing completely still with IDS on and none of your thrusters including horizontal/vertical strafe not engaged even a little?

I'm not sure if you also need a Fuel Converter installed!

You don't need anything but the Deploy Constructor

The first time I tried it took a while to find out how to reach the sweet spot - this is what works for me (and I went 250 000 sectors out using the technique):
  • deploy
  • fly straight at the pylon
  • nose onto the pylon until it stops you - it's not enough to be "close" and stopped, you have to be virtually touching.
  • for quicker refuelling (still slow though) - put energy balance to W5 / S-5
Hope this helps :)

Edit: You can't build anything more than about 20K sectors out - only deploy! :D

REALLY? Well then i just wasted like two hours last night. I was gonna build a station out of the wolfzone when i'd be almost out of fuel. I DID keep a game before i left though.

Well this really sucks because if i can't get the fuel processor working i might as well give up on exploration. I suspect it might be related to the same problem i have with autopilot. I believe that somehow even when i don't touch anything my gamepad is not completely still and it registers as movement. Like for my autopilot to work usually i have to move the horizontal or vertical strafe a little and suddenly it kicks in. sometimes i only have to do it to satrt it. Others, i have to do it after every jump. I'll try recalibrating my gamepad see if it helps...

OK - sorry - just trying to help since I suffered from what you described when I first tried it.

Please forgive me. I wasn't trying to be condescending - I just know from experience that sometimes people think they are doing what they have been told to do, but because the instructions are a little vague (ie not precise) they are actually doing something slightly different.

Anyway, good luck - within the core systems you can refuel with a Build Constructor, though I'm sure you know that

You say that "I believe that somehow even when i don't touch anything my gamepad is not completely still and it registers as movement.";

I once ran out of fuel in inertial, travelling at around 400 - I was able to deploy a fuel processor straight in front and cruise into it, but couldn't stay long enough to actually garner any fuel, which suggests that moving isn't your problem.

pause to check . . .

To test I've just deployed a fuel processor whilst travelling at 184 with no probs, but I do have to be at less than a speed of 5 with my nose on the pillar for it to actually create fuel so it is possible that your GamePad is registering movement

I wasn't being sarcastic. I really actually didn't know that i couldn't build stations away from systems. For all the hours i've played, i've just now started to build some things.::P

I appreciate your help, i really do. I i hadn't been told about station building, i'd spent another 20 mins jumping only to find out at the end i couldn't build a trade station, that would have sucked even more. I actually suddenly have a doubt that i saved my game before leaving the wolfzone....well anyway, im going to play now and i'll try everything i can to make the fuel processors work....

Raynor.

Just to make it clear (So you haven't misunderstood the building part).

You can build every where in and between systems. What Dave meant by 20K is
that you can't build outside 20000 sectors from the center of the universe (0,0,0).

That means that you have 20000 x 20000 x 20000 sectors to build in.

If you already got this down, just disregard this post.

Yeah i was just gonna say that i had misunderstood what he meant cause i did build a station in the end somewhere between the wolfzone and riftspace since my last save game was way before and all i had was a build constructor. So that solved my problem this time. I have yet to try the fuel processors again.

I might be way off base, but are you sure you deployed the right kind of deployable? There's an energy deployable too. It's not the same thing as the fuel processor.

There's also the fuel converter (which only works around stars and in nebulae).

IF you want to fuel up fast for free, you can even build a fuel processor inside a nebula and get them all going at once.
