I noticed that the zip file containing almost all the game's data files (EvochronData.evo) is both encrypted and compressed.
I understand why it's encrypted, but isn't the compression somewhat unnecessary?
I'd gladly sacrifice a few megabytes of HDD space (~70MB) to speed up the loading process a little. (obviously this wouldn't effect the download size, as I presume the installation archive itself is compressed?).

The actual media extraction is pretty fast, not a lot of time is lost in that process. The bulk of the load time comes from loading the media into memory and sometimes managing it there to assemble the objects in memory from individual components. If you don't plan to go planetside for a while, you can change the planet detail setting to Low and it should significantly decrease the load time. Times can vary quite a bit from system to system as well, ranging from about 20 seconds on a fast system up to 60 seconds or more on slower systems. Running some security programs at the same time can also add to the load time significantly.
