problem with Steam version

I keep getting a connection error. I checked Steam's troubleshooting tips and tried the -tcp in the target field of the shortcut, but that didn't help. I know that I have an internet connection - I'm using it!

Any ideas would be appreciated

It might be in the middle of updating to the new version of the game 1.828!.....

I found the problem! It was a setting in the firewall of the modem that was creating all sorts of problems in all the computers of the house. So glad that's taken care of!

I found that I could use the steam version and the version available from this sight interchangeably.
Save files carry over and everything without the need for mucking around with files or anything dubious like that.
