Anyway to speed up getting to a waypoint within a system?
So I'm doing the initial missions and am being sent about local areas, I assume you can't use jumping for such short distances, but if I don't it takes ages to get anywhere.
The alternative is to use the afterburner, but that wastes a LOT of fuel, is there any way around this or just sit out the 40k+ trips?

i'd say it's worth Jumping if the distance is anywhere over about 10k, but then again i use my afterburner a lot as well

You can definitely Jump for those distances. In fact, from what I can tell, you can jump even if you're right on top of the point you have selected... A death from an accidental F2-press a few minutes ago just convinced me that I need to remap my Jump button

I'll jump if I miss an approach to a station. It uses less fuel than manoeuvring back into position.

Missions automatically set the NavPoints to correspond with the Waypoints. All you have to do is complete the waypoint and jump to the next one. There's no need to set your NavMap manually, the mission does it for you!;)

Yup and the Mantis jump drive only uses 10 units of fuel for each jump while its range is 10 sectors, so I would bet that the fuel consumption of each type of jump drive is directly related to its range. With that in mind, using your jump drive will cost you FAR less fuel than flying there by any other means.

I'd point out the IDS multipliers, as I wasn't aware of them before ~20 hours into the game
So set keys to IDS up/down (last page of controls, if I remember correctly). Set ids to 5 & increase speed normally to travel faster when jumping isn't appropriate.

As was stated above, you can jump any distance as an example I will be within sight of a station I want to dock at and instead of engines or afterburners, I lock onto the station in nav map, level my ship to ZERO degrees and jump. It uses fuel but saves lots of time. From post: 129590, Topic: tid=8854, author=Bænlynn wrote:I'll jump if I miss an approach to a station. It uses less fuel than manoeuvring back into position.

I must be missing something, when I take a mission and hit jump, it transports me to somewhere wayyy away.... There was a waypoint tho, but it went nowhere near it and then failed the mission.

Hello, if you click "accept mission" the game is suppose to automatically set a way point for you so all you do then is push "f2" and nothing else. If you use "ALT" f2 it does not work so "Only" press the f2 key by itself. I say this cause "ALT" f2 jumps you in the direction you are facing to the maximum distance your jump drive allows. From post: 129771, Topic: tid=8854, author=danskmacabre wrote:I must be missing something, when I take a mission and hit jump, it transports me to somewhere wayyy away.... Keep in mind danskmacabre that if you have "auto-pilot" on and your either manually hit "jump" or "F2", that it will cause your mission to fail. The key is to take a mission, fly out of the base or planet, then simply press "F2" to jump. Just make sure to not have the "auto-pilot" mode on during that time.
If you are NOT on a mission and you just want to travel to a specific point in space that is very far away THEN it is helpful to mark the spot on the NAV map and use "auto-pilot" to get there.
Have fun out there!

Hey Rubber Chicken. How about this:
