Spacecraft velocity

Post by Cheri50000 »

Hi, guys!

Question for you, how can I get the space craft up to a velocity of 9,000? I know the space craft's maximum velocity is over 10k. Thanks!

Cheers,
Vincent

I would think you just set you IDS to Inertial then hold down the turbo until it hits 9k+. May be wrong though.

 That's about it. If you try hyperjumping, you slow down after making the jump. But the combo of inertial and afterburner is a winner.

afaik, maximum velocity isn't 10k, thats just how far your speedometer can show.

Get the biggest fuel tank you can and, as above suggested above, use afterburn but choose your direction carefully first - turning circle and stopping distance of a supertanker spring to mind. The faster you go though the slower you accelerate so there is a terminal velocity (assuming fuel isn't the limiting factor)

Hmmmm - could be my next research project :D :D :D

I think Marvin worked out that at 2000 you can do less than two sectors an hour! :P :P

Yes, like others mentioned. I would add to speed the process up is to Switch to Inertial, engage Inertial forward thrusters then engage full Afterburners and you can go all the way up to 9999 velocity!....;)

Hi, Maarschalk!

How do I engage inertial forward thrusters? Thanks!

 Default Space Bar to toggle inertial. With intertial engaged, I'd just use afterburner. It's faster than the thrust multiplyer.

Hi, Marvin!

I think the afterburner drive get the spacecraft to higher speeds faster than a regular afterburner. I know the afterburner drive burn a lot of fuel.

Hi, guys!

When the spacecraft is moving at the speed of 6,000, the spacecraft is moving at 6,000 meters or 6 kilometers per second, right? Thanks!

That is correct!.....Although this post needs to be updated according to DaveK tests for speeding up to 9k. It seems that this is not possible. See DaveK's acceleration charts the max is around 7.9k/s

You can get up to about 7000 in a few minutes for very little fuel just using thrusters and inertial (cost me about 50 fuel). Stopping is actually easy: just fulcrum jump :-P costs you a lot less fuel.

Yes you can get up to 7000 but after that it goes very slow getting to 8000. I tried it myself and could only get to around 7600 in an Evoch-E with a full 1200 units of fuel tank! and it took me about 30 to 45 minutes!
