So...

I have never played a multiplayer anything but am thinking that at some point it would be really fun with EM.

After reading all the EM manuals I am sitting here wondering if I should not just lurk in the void for a year until I learn how to keep from getting my ass blown up within 15 seconds of launching.

The sheer detail of what's in EM is amazing and a bit daunting.

How can a beginner do muliplayer without it being too embarrassing?

Hi Dorn.

The only thing you need to do is join.

Almost all pilots are friendly and they will help you with anything,
including assistance against other "hostile" players.
Most players do not engage noobs so don't worry.;)

Hi DORN, and welcome to the game!

Don't hesitate to join multiplayer, there is no reason to be embarrassed. We have all been there and some of us are still crap lol! :D
MP is ideal for getting the help you need. We have a great community with really helpful people, and they will be happy to help you out. Don't worry about getting blown up by other players either. Even the 'evil' clans have dignity and will not harm new players. Only the [BA] (Bad Aliens) clan has a tradition of killing newbies (just) once as a form of welcoming ritual, but that can almost be considered an honor.

Have fun and I hope to see you on MP some time!

Hi Dorn,

I lurked away from MP for a while, and it was a mistake!
I learned more in first month of MP than in all the time I spent away.
This community is really quite unique in its helpfullness.

I think every pilot or at least the vast majority of the pilots had reservations joining MP. I know I did. I too never played an MP game before EVO. Just do it. You won't regret it. As SeeJay implied, we have a bunch of guys and gals who are very willing to stop what they are doing to help a noobie along.

Hi Dorn, I have been playing these games for 3 years and I still get blown up by less experienced pilots and I still learn and live from new players as the games develop. You will never learn this game fully unless you learn from other pillots and your mistakes. Most pilots are very helpfull and only engage in battle with you if you ask them for a PvP(Player versus Player) session to test your skills, ships and weapons! And will give you tips and help to improve yourself!..........;)

 And, just as importantly, don't worry if you accidently mess up another pilot's contract ... or ship. It's bound to happen eventually.

I agree totally with Flash. I had reservations about joining multiplayer as well. But once I did, I started getting better a lot faster than I did in single player. Everyone's helpful, and nobody makes you feel stupid.

And since the universe is so big, you'll probably be alone most the time unless you seek out other pilots to do missions together, etc. So you won't feel like someone's "watching over your shoulder."
