Help! IMG quest fluff up! **SOLVED!**

I think I already know the answer but . . .

I took a break from the IMG Quest to get my skills honed a long time ago)

In the meantime, Marvin produced his excellent Road Rally

I started a fresh profile for the Road Rally borrowed a few million from the bank for the setup costs, got a decent ship sorted and had great fun on the Rally

yep - I continued to develop my Road Rally Profile instead of my main profile . . .

. . . and made it to Legend, 11 billion credits and Fleet Admiral. I've now decided to finish the IMG Quest and then do the Quest for Peace but . . . rats rats rats

Q1: Is there any way I can replace the Rally Quest file with the IMG Quest file, even if I have to start the IMG Quest again from scratch?

Q2: Is it possible to do the Quest for Peace starting from the the end of the Road Rally?

I think you only need to remove the quest file for the rally (questtextc) and make sure that the
img quest file is still there. (questtext) if I recall correct.

Every quest has a start point and a current "save" point saved to whatever profile you used while doing that specific quest. Your save point is displayed in the Start Game menu, on the main Pilot Selection page ... on the left-hand side where you can cycle between your specs and your loadout for whichever profile is highlighted.

I'd find a profile with a low quest-save number, clone it, and use it for the default IMG quest. The Quest for Peace has a start point which begins immediately after you've finished the default quest ... ergo, you can use the same profile for both. But, somewhere along the Quest for Peace, you'll need the services of a science officer ... so plan on using a sturdy civilian ship.

SeeJay is probably correct ... I don't remember if the default quest was or was not a file. Either way, though, your profiles cannot be "rolled back" to an earlier point in any quest. But, for example, if you have a profile showing you're at step 8 ... then that will be step 8 for any quest with a step 8 (currently, that would be either the road rally or the default IMG quest ... the first step in the Quest for Peace is somewhere in the 30s, IIRC).

Right - I'm at step 11 - but when I look in the news section it tells me that I should head for Wolf via Oly; I haven't got a quest text file in at all so I need to find one in my back ups that is questtext and not questtextc!

Is the original a txt or a dat file?

EDIT: I had both questtext.dat and questtextc.txt in the main game folder - deleted the txt file and I appear to be back on the IMG Quest - I'll check it out tomorrow, but thank you both veeeery much!

It seems that I didn't develop my Rally Profile but just left the Rally quest in to override the IMG quest!

The original is probably a data file ... Vice made changes to the game so I could use a compiled text file for the rally. First thing I'd try, though, is pull all quest files from the game and see what happens. Also, if you get stuck, check SeeJay's website ... he has a list of where you should go (and when) in the default quest.

Congratulations. Btw, if your objective is to log the locations of hidden items and star systems, you can then transfer that info to the log corresponding to your high-ranking profile.

A slight hiccough! I am doing IMG quest No 16 (Multi WP in Sierra) according to the help info on SeeJay's site, but my pilot profile says I'm at 21 - just deleteing the Road Rally txt file hasn't fully worked!

I would like to finish the IMG Quest just to finish it, but also more importantly to go onto the Quest for Peace. Will it follow on properly if if the IMG Quest numbers are out of kilter.

Do I need to ask Vice to edit my profile to correct the number, I wonder?

If you only have one profile, you're stuck with whatever step is saved to that profile. Check your last message and see if it's an IMG quest message or something else. Then compare it with what's listed at SeeJay's website. And, yes, when you finish the IMG quest, it leads into the Quest for Peace (which is appended to the default quest).

Assuming scanning and destrying capital ships with an inspection contract in there as well are all legit then yes I'm in it. The contracts are headed IMG. It's just the numbers that are mismatched. I'm going to finish on 23 rather than 18!

The last mission in the default quest is fairly clear cut. Afterward, you won't see any more IMG messages ... even if you go to the News section to look for the last one. At that time, you can put the Quest for Peace in your main game folder and check News for the last message ... this time, one should show up (the first Quest for Peace message).

I finished the original quest a couple of days ago and loaded the QfP file in today - it seems to be working, though I think I've done everything for the first proper task, but haven't got another message - I'm just double checkng everything! :D

I've just started - it seems to be a very different emphasis and hence, for me, worth trying. It assumes the level of experience and quality of equipment you would have after the original quest.

I am stuck on the first main task! - I'll sleep on it and see if an obvious oversight springs to mind

It depends. A lot of it is exploration ... sending you to star systems off the beaten path. Also, at least one mission requires either a science officer or lots of luck.
