Great game, Vice. I only stopped playing when I lost the game due to an immense hard drive deletion and then just somehow put it on the back burner. Anyway, I saw the upgrade to Merc and had to try it. Great stuff! I went to trading right away getting some pretty quick payouts from my knowledge of Legends, but when I came back to Olympus for some action with a Guardian frame and a class 11 cannon and nice beam laser and Excalibur missiles I was still getting my butt handed to me by the starting combat zone AIs (Olympus). Three or four can overwhelm me pretty quickly. I'm lucky to complete a combat contract vs 2-4 enemies on the third or fourth try.

So my question is, do the enemies scale to our tech level or did they just get a lot smarter and harder than they were in Legends?

Excalibur used to take out like two of them at a time in Olympus, but now not even one goes down unless I time its launch well. My cannon/laser combo used to take them out faster too, but having to shoot a lot just to get through shields. I actually like the challenge, but I'm wondering if I missed something, since I assume I'm way more advanced in tech than the AI, it must be my own pilot error? Combat tips versus small groups of rebels would be nice.

Hi and welcome back redviking.

EM is tougher than EL imho!

You need to fight with your head (correct use of weapons) as well as skilled
maneuvering of your ship. Combination of IDS/Inertia works for me.
You can take out 1-2 ships with Excal if you time it good. More fun fighting with Guns/Lasers only thou!;)

Target one of the ships on the edge of the group and circle around them
picking them off 1 by one is one way to take a group on.
If you do that correctly you can do 5WP contracts using nothing but Guns and Lasers and some CM:s if needed.

All you need is practice and hop on MP and do some joint contracts
with other players to get up to speed.

Since you played EL you'll manage in no-time!

Yes, EM is harder then EL combat wise. The AIs have smartened up, they now have gang up on you strategies!......;):P:P:P:P:P

As Maars said, the AI now hang back and attack you as a group instead of coming at you one at a time.:P

It makes it easier though to use fulcrum torpedos or proximity mines........;):P:P:P:P:P:P

I seem to have gotten the hang of it and when I tried (after reading the forums) a different combination of beam/cannon I was pounding through hulls in no time. Now I'm off to Cerulean! I was under the apparently mistaken assumption that bigger and more expensive is better, but the high powered class 11 cannon I had just wasn't hitting very often I take it.

Oh in MP my callsigns are Alethos or Therion (Truth or Beast in old Greek for the nerds out there)

The Predator Class 11 Cannon is a powerfull weapon. The reason most players miss a lot of hits with this one is that they forget to read that the effective range of this weapon is 480 meters and they try to hit a target at 750 meters distance like they are used to with the basic class 1 cannon. So this weapon is best used at close range in conjunction with the Weapons disabler missile and or you sneak up on the enemies six at close range with this one!.....;):cool:
